Had a meeting after school today at which the (unconfirmed) outcome is that TA support for my class is going to be cut to just under 7 hours a week. I'm not really that surprised, I know and understand the reasons and to an extent I agree with them - the need is greater elsewhere. I have a lovely class of 21, no major SEN, only 1 child with behaviour issues, they have proved to be brilliant at picking up the many different routines we have and still manage to adapt to new ones but still, I feel disheartened and dispirited by it. My apologies for taking up your time but there isn't anyone I can share with at all and I just needed to 'sigh a little' about it!

Found this amongst all the discussion and follow up to 'that woman' and her comments... Written by Sue Cowley an educational author, trainer and presenter. She volunteers in classrooms, and also helps to run her local preschool. Striking a Balance Would also suggest her other article Who are we doing it for anyway? (my antivirus did not like the page, but checked with another who said it was ok ) I enjoyed the read and felt it summed up Early years rather well.

Its only a small amount of sunshine but I feel great today. Smiley, happy, upbeat, positive and energetic. Its 8.5 degrees according to my car, the sky is blue with just some small high up random clouds and I can feel the warmth. Hope its as lovely wherever you are.

Elizabeth Truss in a speech at a nursery world conference said: There are various myths about practice. I want to point out that these things are not required by Ofsted, but most settings think they are. Firstly, free-flow play between indoors and outdoors is not a requirement and not something Ofsted will be looking for. It is not a requirement to have a certain amount of child-led activity.. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What!!!!!! She then talks (again) about how nurseries are not taking advantage of employing graduates and having 1:13 ratios to raise quality, Please, please could someone shut this woman up and how on earth does this raise quality. Am I missing someth…

this has been brought to the attention of all EY settings in my area - have a look Ofsted Consultation re revising inspection for Early Years Providers Ofsted have just released the following consultation http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/resources/good-early-years-provision-for-all . We would urge you to respond to this consultation as a Provider and/or as individuals. Please find below a condensed list of the proposed changes taken from the consultation …

No I don't mean behind your back!!! I'm starting at a new setting and previously I have always been known by Mrs Surname as it was felt childen get used to this before they go to school and most teachers are known by their surnames. However at this new setting the staff are known by their christian names. I know it sounds friendlier but...... So what do I do? First proper day tomorrow. I dont want to be the only member of staff being formal as it were or do I insist all the other staff are known by their surnames, should I ask the parents what they think or let this lot go to school and start from September. Is it all just too confusing and I should just go with …
