I have just bought some super titles from Sainsbury's all £2.49. Little Baa by Kim Lewis is a lamb who wanders away from his mum and is lost, he misses his mum and she misses him too, the children were able to emphasize, they talked about how it feels to be sad and we talked about keeping safe when shopping with parents. Luckily they are reunited with some help from a shepherd and his dog. A happy ending. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh

Hi all I need to take advantage of all that font of knowledge out there and so have hijacked the forum to do it (Sorry Steve!!!!!) My friend has rather boldly taken on the task of trying to purchase new books for the junior library of the primary school that our children go to. She would love to hear book suggestions for children in years 3 to 6, so roughly 7 to 11 year olds. The school is a C of E school attended by a broad spectrum including some very acedemic kids and so variety is the key to cater for all tastes. She is particulary struggling to find reading matter for girls. Animal stories are fine, but she worries about the content of some of the …

Hi, I have had recommended to me some new books for role play. At least, they were recommended before publication date and I recently came across them on a website--theres a series, each one with a different focus and they cost about £ 16 each BUT although I can remember the author, I cant trace them. Ive tried all sorts on google but with no luck. The author is Diane Bentley, who has written lots of different materials for children. PLEASE: Has anyone seen these books? Are they worth the expense? Who is the publisher? Thanks.

Pester power worked! Have just bought some books. 5 little fiends, which is about, well, 5 little fiends, who all live inside statues. When they look out at the world they all like a part of it so much they take it for themselves but they realise ..the sun doesnt stay up without the sky, the sea doesnt flow without the moons pull... Really good book. Also bought Chicken licken (lift the flap version, and no-one gets eaten ), good for rhyming words, We all went on a safari, it's a counting book but also gives the number names in Tanzanian, and shows you how to pronounce the words. Too much Talk, the children can join in with parts of this. River story, lovely pics, tells…

Foundations Of Literacy

Hi there, I'm not overly confident with early literacy development, and so I ordered this book after reading some stuff about it being used in a school in Cornwall (Camborne, I think). So far I'm really impressed, as it's going to have quite an impact on my teaching next year, I think (YR). It makes you think carefully about all the aspects that feed into literacy development. Chapters are 'Learning to listen', 'Time to Talk', 'Music, movement and memory', 'Storytime', 'Learning about Print', 'Tining into Sound', 'Moving into writing' and 'Switching on the Searchlights'. It's quite an easy read, too, and has real ideas for teaching the different strands (real…
