OK the scenario is setting A opened in rented premises and after a few years closed down. The premises have been empty ever since. Setting B is a very well established setting in rented premises a few miles away. The lease for Setting B is coming to an end and they have found that the premises used by setting A are available to rent. Of course we know setting B has to notify OFSTED of any move that might happen but i wonder does anyone know if they will need to do a building inspection (as one was done prior to the other setting opening there). Any idea of how easy/difficult the OFSTED process is in relation to moving premises would be very welcome. Particularly in r…

Hi! I need some advice please! I have been told today by one of my TAs that the lady who covers my PPA time has a massive problem with rolling snack. She called it 'disgusting' and a 'free for all.' Asking my TA how she would feel if a child choked. We've done rolling snack in Nursery for 7 + years now and never had a problem. The children put their name card on the back of a chair, wash hands, choose snack, when finished they tidy up and put their name in the box. The children are 'trained' when they first come into Nursery and follow the routine well. There is not a staff member assigned to this area but we are never more than a few metres away in case if…

Hi, We have some tricycles in our Pre-Nursery and Nursery. Our children range in age from 2-5 years old. The children ride the trikes along a sort of path way in an enclosed area that is part of our outdoor free-flow area. Can someone please tell me what the current legal requirements are for wearing helmets in a child care setting? Thanks!

Today my Manager told me about a conversation she had with the Head of our feeder primary school. Apparantly, as they are now an Academy they 'have to' test the children on induction to assess if they have Speech and Language needs so as to ascertain the budget for a SaLT. out of 41 newbies only.........5!!!....did not need speech and language support!!! i am shocked and slightly horrified! 😳 29 of those children were from our setting!! 😭 i would NOT have thought THAT many.....maybe a handful plus the 3 that I had sought SaLT for....and of course it is becoming more and more difficult to get referrals unless the child's need is high. i am also disa…

Hi, I haven’t posted on here before....in fact I haven’t posted on any forum for a very long time so forgive me if I’m in the wrong place! I work at a charity run playgroup and recently attended a course where I overheard people talking about how many weeks they are open for. It was my understanding that a childcare setting had to be open to care for children for at least 38 weeks in order to receive funding, yet the other people were saying that they were only open for 35 weeks. Please could someone clarify where we stand on this? Are we allowed to use any of these days to have training? Plan? Do home visits? Is there a legal specification on what we have to provide…

Hi, can any one please advise me which companies provide home and contents insurance for childminders with accidental cover included for mindees. I have been with Blue Fin for approx 17 years but they have sold their homeminder business to A plan. I have contacted Aviva direct who I am actually insured with through Blue Fin and they quoted me £120 cheaper than I had previously paid them through blue fin. However they will only insure me for 6 children, although this isn’t a problem for me my friend who is also looking for home insurance sometimes has 8 children which includes 2 over the age of 8 and is unsure who to contact too. 🤔 We want to ensure we are covered properly…

Hi there. We have a preschool unit attached to the school and have several children coming through that are still in nappies. With this in mind, we wanted to have a policy for the application of nappy creams and wanted to ensure that it was clear about the administering of this and ensure we follow this correctly. Any help would be great. Thanks

Hi everyone I'm new to my setting and would really like to introduce free flow play as our outdoor area is amazing and not used half as much as it should be. Problem is there are different levels to our garden and I am concerned about safety (the garden is secure though and risk assessments have been completed). I also have a staff team who are not very acceptable to change and see new ideas as a chore. Any advice on how to deal with either would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
