We are a small setting. Our busiest day we only have 11 children aged 2-4 in the same room. I, as the manager, am qualified to level 5. I have a deputy who is level 3. I have 1 apprentice and 1 unqualified (no intention of training). Can I or my deputy be alone with the apprentice r unqualified? I am contracted to work from home twice a week which means my deputy would be the only qualified. Am I going to have to find another qualified to be out of ratio?

Hi all! I recently read an article which discussed the problems with ability grouping for any area learning - with the main point being that it actually widens the gap! I have always been an advocate of mixed ability grouping and have seen many benefits of the children support each other's learning in a way that couldn't be achieved if they were ability grouped. However, I have always been lead to believe that ability groupings are necessary for phonics and fine-motor/gross motor development (and for some number work) with the justification being that each group need very specific teaching and different learning outcomes. Very quick question...looking at setting up a website for our setting. A parent (non committee member) has offered to do this using "some old wix sites he has spare". He does not do this sort of thing for a living. While grateful for the cost saving instinct tells me old sites could have been used for some other purpose in the dim and distant past, also I am insisting he gets DBS as committee member before I give the go ahead. Any thoughts or suggestions please...?

I would like to update our supervision forms to include parts of the appraisal and no longer hold a 12 month appraisal. I would like some ideas as to which format works the best.

Would any of you consider a glitter ban, considering what it is made of now and the amount of pollution it could cause when used in the quantities it is.. Putting together all settings it would be a considerable amount.. Sky News - Nurseries ban glitter over pollution concerns I had not really thought about it until now..

Hi everyone, We are very new to using tapestry and I am just wondering if I could have other peoples views/help/suggestions on how they use the next steps for children from tapestry onto planning sheets? We have a continuous planning sheet and I am trying to to think of new, simple ideas to link next steps and children's interests as well? I want to try and make the most out of tapestry rather than carrying on with mountains of paperwork if I am missing simple links. Thanks in advance.
