Looking for a bit of advice please. What do you do with 3 to 4 year old son who have hurt someone. In previous years we have been advised to do time out - (2 mins not playing) but now we have been advised to fuss the child who has been hurt and distract the offender. We are finding that more children are hurting each other. Not sure if it's just the time of year or whether the children are picking up on the fact that nothing is really done. That sounds awful to say as I know most hurting is an emotional response which can't be controlled. Also, parents want to know what is being done. We do lots of nurturing activities where we talk about feelings. Any adv…

Hello I'm looking for a piece of equipment that has padlocks, switches, fasteners, etc on for my Pre-school. I have asked parents if anyone can make something for me but unfortunately no-one has come forward. It looks as though I may have to buy something. I am sure I have seen something like I would like quite a while ago but can't see anything now. Can anyone help please? V

Copyright Law

Have just got around to looking through this summer's Nursery World magazines and found an interesting article from the July 22 issue. Did you know that ........ Nurseries and playgroups showing children films on DVDs or videos must obtain a licence or permission from the copyright owner or else they will be in breach of the copyright law. This is because videos and DVDs are intended for home use only and it is therefore illegal for a nursery, etc. to show them without an umbrella licence provided by the Motion Picture Licensing Company (MPLC). A licence costs £2 per child per year. Penalties for not paying this include a £5000 fine or six months in jail!!!!…

Hi we are looking at introducing digital/online learning journeys into our setting. I have started looking into all the different providers out there and would welcome any advice as to what to look for and how to go out about choosing the right one for us. There are so many to choose from! Any advice/ feedback would be very gratefully received.

I am the teacher in a local authority nursery in a school so the children are 3 and 4. I have a little boy who attends for 2 full days a week and has a sister in Reception. The family are new to school and it has quickly become apparent that they are a 'vulnerable' family with previous social services involvement. The little boy is bright and articulate and enjoys being with us although will cling on to mum in the morning. The problem is that he refuses to use the toilet at nursery. He wets and soils approx. 4/5 times a day. He will only let us change him into his own clothes but refuses to wear ours once his have run out. Recently, mum has been sending him in a…

Hello! I'm new to this and haven't done supervisions before. I've got a form to fill out but I'd appreciate any hints or tips when carrying them out? My deputy has already got on the defence thinking I'm doing it as I have concerns. Trying to explain that it's good practice for them to be done every 6 weeks....

Hi, we have had donations of a few old electrical items which we would like to use for the children to take apart under supervision with screwdrivers etc, We are school nursery taking 3 and 4 year olds. Just wondering if anyone else has had any success with this type of thing, and specifically if anyone has got a risk assessment that we could have a look at? Thanks in advance for your advice Cheers
