I'm interested in how meals are managed with mixed ages of children between 18 months and two yrs in a room... how do you manage lunch times? Whats the routine? Do you have children in high chairs...? do you give pudding immediately one child finishes or wait for all to finish before pudding is served? What happens when a child leaves the table before lunch is finished?...or between courses?.... do staff sit with children...? What if a child refuses to sit for lunch and just wants to play? lots of questions but I am having a few issues and hoping there's some strategies I can try out to help.

We are planting seeds, beans etc over the next few weeks and would like to sort different beans and make patterns etc. Are there any beans that children shouldn't handle? I'm sure someone will be able to advise me. Thanks V

Could anyone help with this sittuation. At singing time with a small group of young children we sang nursery rhymes and used prop. E.g five little monkey - having five monkey finger puppets. One of the children started crying because he wanted the puppet, so the practitioner let him hold one, then he wanted all five and ever other puppet we had. When not given all of them he proceeded to cry very loudly so that none of the children could hear the singing. Could anyone advice what to do in the sittuation.

I'm having a problem in my nursery as I am feeling as though we are under staffed in our afternoons and struggling to provide proper care for children as a result. I am getting quite stressed e.g. When I turn my back and am unable to properly supervise children who hurt themselves plus the fact we are all leaving late (unpaid) every day because we can't get everything done in the shift. As an example of a typical afternoon (though today we had less!) ; we had 9 children aged 3-5 and 6 children aged 2 all playing under the supervision of 2 level 3 staff. The problem is that two members of staff have to be left with the children whilst one deals with things like p…

We have been asked by a local nursery if we know anyone who has used bunk bed cots in their nursery. They used to be made by the 'Bunkcot company' but have been modernised and improved (so they say) by 'Fafunia ltd'. They want them for a designated sleep room which would be staffed at all times These are the cots: fafu cots if you have any feedback about using such cots please post!

Hi I offer breakfast and afterschool care (when nursery is not in use) As children arrive & leave at anytime I ask parents to sign in and sign out. I have one parent who has suggested that there is no need for this. What do other clubs do and why?

A mum approached me today concerned about her 3 year old. He can make himself vomit at the sight of certain foods, even if they are only on the TV. We haven't noticed anything here but he has gone home this week having not eaten his sandwiches and mum told me this -they had made the sandwiches together so he knew what was on them. When she later asked why he hadn't eaten them he said 'because they had cheese on them.' He knew there wasn't cheese on them and when she said this to him he replied 'daddy came down in the night and put the cheese on!' I haven't ever come across this before but it seems to me this is a mental issue rather than just being fussy. I have …
