So here we are - again, that time of the year when instead of feeling slightly smug that the last two years of offering child initiated activities, oodles of opportunities to be social, imaginative, independent learners with countless 'teaching in the moment' moments (yep) We find ouselves wondering - where have we gone wrong??? Our Reception teacher was briefly in today ( not a transition visit) and she remarked that 'last years cohort have been awful' apparently none of them are exceeding because they are 'scruffy' (writing - not dress sense : ) So I said, well your going to love the next group as none of them are 'writing'. ( 13 boys)! Well she couldnt have…

Preschool is currently using Early Learning Centre readymix paint as it's safe for under twos. They are quite small bottles, so consequently not as economical as the manager would like. What suppliers are there who do larger bottles that are safe for under twos, does anyone know? In my old preschool I have to admit that I used just ordinary readymix that was 36 months and up, and the two year olds were just monitored more closely. Nobody ever tried to deliberately ingest it, but that's not the case here, we have a brush sucker! Any help would be appreciated

Shelving units for CP

We are moving to our new building in September. We are a three form entry school and are now at the point where we are ordering furniture. We already have some Early Excellence shelving but wondered if there were any similar shelving units that are just as good but a little cheaper. I have had a quote from Community Playthings but it blew our budget away. Any help much appreciated.

Hi, We've been given some money for our outdoor Area which we were planning on using for a mini play trail. However, we have since discovered that the fitting cost puts us well over budget. One of the items was the 2 ropes hung between 2 posts to help strengthen shoulders. Any ideas of anything else we could buy which would help the children with this. We already have 2 A frames. Or any other ideas of things we could get for outdoors which would be more permanent but effective! Thanks Green Hippo x

Hi, Hope everyone is enjoying or looking forward to enjoying their Easter/Spring holidays. I was wondering if anyone uses play-dough mats. I have heard a few 'experts' dismiss them for different reasons but I find the sometimes the play-dough table needs a few ideas and have made a few myself e.g. drawing around a cutter shape and putting the numerals beside the shape for children to match and count. Do you find the printable ones are used (I haven't used them for a few years and remember that they were not that well used?) and are effective? Thanks Green Hippo x

Hi, I've been helping out some afternoons in the FS of my son's primary school as I only teach my Nursery class in the mornings. The staff in the Nursery were really disheartened as they have had their displays ripped down, new backing put up of all bright colours, told that they need to have things hanging and had their room rearranged. Both the teachers are experienced and are up to date with current research - not over stimulating children, displays that demonstrate the children's learning and interest, plain backing so they children's work can be seen. But the co-ordinator is very old-fashioned and not only likes a more formal approach but also believes that "childre…

Hi lovely people hoping for some advice Before half term one of our children was diagnosed with a life long illness. He is the youngest recorded case and the hospital don't have any 'child friendly' medicine he can have and he finds it really hard to take it. He's only just turned 5. We are working really closely with the parents and have a care plan in place, but mum is really worried about him not taking his medicine. He is also bordering on the spectrum so when the nurses used the analogy that the medicine was like an army going into his body to fight the nasty disease he took it literally and is scared to take his medicine because little men are going to star…

Years and years ago, before paperwork was invented.....I can vaguely remember using a paint product that did'nt blend colours! We used it to make beautiful butterflys - you know, blobs of paint, fold the paper, ta-dah a butterfly!! The colours were bright and as they didnt blend a fabulous effect was produced! Now, iI'm sure we bought it from a reputable childrens supplier like Hope or such like...... Would love to use it again.....anyone know what I'm talking about...? Have googled but no results!!
