Hi, I would like to change our indoor blocks, We currently have 4 boxes of green, yellow, red and yellow very small blocks and they are not used regularly. We have the large Early Excellence blocks outside and I'm wondering whether to get similar sized blocks or to use a set of my children's blocks. They are small but not as small as the ones we have a school. They are also natural and interesting shapes including stairs and castles type blocks. Do you think these are as good as the larger bricks or is it more important to offer the larger bricks? Thanks Green Hippo x

Hi, I am trying to work out a mission or a hunt for super heroes but I'm struggling to make it exciting. It is for reception and I would like them to follow clues. Has anyone done a successful activity like this that they would like to share? Thank you in anticipation.

Hi, We have a Large squarish shaped raised bed type area which we have had bark in but find that it keeps being emptied. I wondering whether to continue to have it as a bark area but put much more bark in it or to change it. We have raised beds for veggies and digging and are having a deeper sand pit built so I'm not really sure what to do with it? Any ideas? Thanks Green Hippo xxx

Hi, First post of the new school term! Just evaluating daily rhymes and storytime. For the last 2-3 years we have had a daily story from our core book bag (based on children's favourite plus a few other key books) and try to do the rhyme of the week and the number rhyme of the week. I have a box with lolly sticks with little pictures for rhymes on the end and number rhymes resources which the children use while we are singing. We do a rhyme session one morning and another number rhyme session another morning (5 mins). I try to stick to a collection of rhymes in order for the children to learn them well, sometimes using new ones that fit in with children's interests. We a…

Hi all, i've always thought that demonstrating that practitioners/setting value, encourage and respect childrens' diverse backgrounds and home languages should be more than just about having some words printed in other languages and stuck around the room ( this is a basic thing i think we should do). But what else/how else can we provide opportunities for children to share their languages, culture, how can we support their home languages (i am familiar with the hello song being sung in different languages).? has anyone come across or carried out some sort of reflection/audit in this area within their setting before? what kinds of things did you cover and come acro…
