Has anyone tried to use Early Learning HQ recently. I have tried downloading resources but it's asking me for login details. I can't find anywhere to create one? I've also tried to send them an email and it comes up with an error. Green Hippo x

Hi, some of the children are keen to decorate stones in the outdoor area. We have done this before with acrylic paint, having been told that it will be waterproof, however, the paint soon came off. Has anyone done this before and found a successful technique to keep the colours on? Is varnishing them a way forward? Thinking of getting special pens from Baker Ross, then varnishing but not sure this will work, Thanks, Green Hippo x

Hello all, In our staff meeting we had a little dicussion regarding how children's work should be displayed. I would like to ask for the opininions of people on here before offering my own. The disagreement was about whether or not you should cut out a child's work before displaying it (under 3s really as older ones would be given the option to do so themselves if they wanted to). For example, let's say that you have given your toddler an A3 size sheet of paper to do a painting on, they have only painted the middle section of the page and you want to display it on the wall; do you cut off the excess paper that they have not used and generally cut around whatever they ha…

Hi, We've got OFSTED looming and I want to plan my lessons around the book The Rainbow FishI've done it before but cant find any of my lesson plans. I remember doing a role play where I stuck silver 'scales' to a child and the rest of the class were the other fish. Obviously we could do art work-painting fish , sticking shapes on fish. Any other ideas? What I'd love is a 5 day literacy and numeracy plan based around it (was going to do shape or pattern for numeracy). Also, dont know if I should fall into the trap of tenuous links but as we bake each week i'd like OFSTED to see this and was thinking of doing something 'fishy'!! :lol:Maybe Not eating fish as they mig…

Hi all, I have a few children in my Nursery class who are not yet stable in their pencil grip and control. Most of them do not rest their hand or wrist on the table when they are writing. This is an area which I have read up on (both on here and elsewhere!) and have attempted to offer a wide range of activities/resources to help develop the associated muscles including lots of gross motor activities for shoulder and elbows. However, the children in question are very capable in the gross motor department! In fact a couple of them are about the best in the class at climbing & balancing type activities. I'm at a bit of a lose what to do to further improve their grip and…

Hello all, My children are very into doing shows at the moment (of all kinds) so I'm thinking of making our role play area into a show space. My first thoughts include: a stage area background that they can paint scenery on till/tickets resources to make programmes microphones assortment of dressing up clothes! a large box that we're going to convert into a TV that they can get inside Any other thoughts to get us going? I have decided that the only way I'm ever going to get a new role play area 'installed' is if I give over an afternoon to making it so I'm trying to think of tasks/activities that I can delegate out to my children (especially the Y1s) t…

We take photos of the group's experiences which parents get at the end of each term. In the past they were given CDs with photos, which had to be compress to fit. Now parents bring in USB sticks. I would like to give children photos more regularly and not have to remind parents about anything. Is anyone putting pictures online, using for example Flickr or Dropbox? If so, how do parents access these and no one else?

I have various sets of playing cards both just 'normal' cards and specific games such as snap but they are a nightmare to put a way properly - the boxes are just the right size so really tricky for small fingers to put cards in especially once one or two are slightly dog-eared or bent. Boxes are getting broken or ripped making the job even harder and I have random cards littering my cupboard that fall out on the floor every time we open the door! Has anyone got ideas for different ways we could safely store them? I have thought about using those plastic take away boxes for some of our oversize sets but the smaller ones would rattle around and take up quite a lot of …

Our fundraisers have been working hard and i have been given some money to buy a 'music trolley' and some new instruments for preschool. I am struggling to see anything that will be for for purpose and wonder what all you lovely people use? The idea for a trolley is to enable it to be moved around the setting inside and out and over to the school hall. Andrea

The children have been enjoying playing hide and seek and What's the time Mr Wolf. We are trying to think of other games that involve counting but apart from rhymes we are stuck! Help!
