Digital Picture Frames

I have never used a digital picture frame but wondered if this would be an answer to our current ongoing printer problems at school - does anyone use one of these? I currently have a large display board divided into the 7 areas with photos in each area; this term the display has been decidedly empty. Are they practicable? Any thoughts?

Hi We are about to do a drop in for parents so they can see what we do in the setting and how we deliver the EYFS. I wanted to ask if anyone does this and what works well? As its the first time I really want it to be successful and need to plan accordingly. Thanks in anticipation

Hi I just wondered if you send anything home each term to share with parents about what the children we be learning and practicing each term? Our EYA said we need to be giving parents ideas of what they could do at home with their child. I.e. if the focus is maths- numbers give examples of how parents could support children's counting at home.

Hi! I havent posted here before, but love the ideas and resources that are available here, so before I start - thank you! My question is - What do you love about your currect setting or what would you love to have in your school? I have been given the opportunity to help in the planning and building of a new Nursery and Creche extension to our school. I have seen some fantastic schools in the UK when I worked there but often a few days on supply doesnt give the depth of understanding that working with a setting day in and day out does. Some background: We are based in Astana, Kazakhstan, the winters get very very cold (down to -40 + wind chill) so we cant always …

Hi! Just like to hear other's views on creativity/fluffy duck syndrome etc. Over the last few weeks for key groups times, one of our activities has been EAD based. We wanted to introduce children to other ways of joining (other than glue and sellotape). So, 1 week they have used split pins to make a simple puppet and the following week they used treasury tags to make a door decoration. Since doing these activities, many children have been experimenting with both split pins and treasury tags - being 'creative' with them. I am very much an ant-fluffy duck person but do sometimes do these sorts of activities to introduce a particular skill. And, particularly with these las…

...for YR children! Please help - I am so demoralised and miserable. I am an experienced teacher but I haven't been in EYFS for a few years, so I know things have changed but I was still under the impression that YR children only have a Learning Intention when they're doing an adult-led focus task (which happens in small groups 3x per week in Literacy and Maths in my new school) and that when they're accessing Continuous Provision, they might be learning lots of different (usually cross-curricular) things. Surely, if children are taking part in child initiated activities, it is unreasonable to expect that every activity will be Literacy based when the input is Liter…

I have to say something or I will burst....today a new 2 year old started ...lovely little boy....no probs no tears when parents left. They brought with them his previous learning journey from alocal setting where he has been since a baby....(we only take from 2yrs so that is why they changed....) Looking at that Learning Journey as the Owner, made my blood boil.We keep to the Statutory Guidance as best we can,as I expect we all do...for the benefit of our children and their parents. That is why we have been full for the past 9 years......but if you had seen this Learning Journey from a setting that was inspected 2 years ago and were graded 'Good'.......... 1) No photo port…

Electronic registers

Just a question that came up after our admin assistant left and the committee decided not to replace her.Myself and my deputy are having to take up all her roles. An electronic register would help us greatly, so I just wondered if anyone used one or if Tapestry was going to be extended to include one. Thanks in advance. Mary.

How would you respond to staff completing a display that basically involved children in painting or covering pre-cut shapes in adult chosen colours...to then be assembled by adults to create a picture e.g...some circles painted pink...and letters collaged over in tissue paper....assembled to make a 'three pigs' display.? To me this isn't really a valuable activity for children at all...and its something I have raised with staff before...that children shouldn't create work for display but their own work should be displayed..... I see not benefit in this type of product at all...it frustrates me ... but now its up...what do I do...do I raise the issue or let it go?...an…
