Hi, I have always struggled with having a fully working listening station - I have had ear-phones into a CD player and an MP3 player with normal speakers but both have been broken even though the children have been carefully shown how to use them and haven't broken them on purpose - just through over-use and small parts. I am considering whether to buy another MP3 player/new earphone set-up. Do you have a listening station? How is it used and how much? I had a memory stick with the class nursery rhymes and action songs on and had intended putting some Julia Donaldson stories on before the MP3 player was broken but didn't really have anything else to put on. The childre…

Does anyone have any ideas of where I could get a drying rack that may fit underneath a table?

I wasn't quite sure where to post this or what title to give it so I hope it makes sense! I have seen the timetables for TA support that I have next year. I have a class of 30 (19 YR and 11 Y1) and 3 different people will be supporting the class (in addition to me!) - all at different times. I have a total of 10 hours support (which includes our lunchtime slot for hearing readers) all in the mornings. Sometimes the slot of time is 45 minutes. I do have one morning where I have support for a lovely long slot of 2 1/2 hours. A couple of mornings there will be 3 different adults in one after another. I am trying to come up with ways to ensure that I can keep them info…

I work at a private nursery in Fulham and have been searching high and low for new courses to send practitioners on but am having a lot of difficulty, I have even looked at the tri-borough courses but some do not even apply to early years! Also want to avoid overpriced courses! Thanks

Hi, I have my music area tucked in the corner near the door to my classroom so that the instruments are easily accessible when children are singing and dancing on the carpet area. At the moment the instruments are in one of those wire kitchen trollies with 3 baskets. It has served it's purpose but is not ideal as instruments fall through and is generally just unorganised! We can't afford to buy a specific shelving unit for this but I can't think how to organise things better without spending a loads of money. Any ideas. I suppose I could just get one of those plastic drawer units on wheels but would like something a little more 'natural' looking? Any brainwaves? Thank…

Hi, well me and a colleague have had a good tidy up of our outdoor area - we spent 6 hours doing it! It feels great to have it looking organised again! Having reorganised our outdoor area last year so that many resources could be left out, we have now decided to go back to tidying most things back into the shed on a daily basis! I think the children had stopped seeing what was out all the time, so this way we are going to have things on offer but with the ability to mix it up a bit more to keep interest, and develop things over time. I am also hoping that it will be easier to check if things are in the right boxes if staff are having to put boxes away (as opposed to a qu…

Hi all! My current dilemma: to label or not to label outdoor equipment storage boxes? I am sick of them looking tatty very quickly as we try to leave some equipment out as continuous provision and have no where to store it so although under a canopy the weather does still get to it. I would still put labels on the explorer draws and resource boxes that are put away but thinking otherwise for other equipment? Or is it just an occupational hazard? I go back to my rant a few months ago about the outdoors being 'real' and I wouldn't want soggy signs up in my garden? But also want children to help with tidying up! Any thoughts? Green Hippo x

I'm planning for the first week back but I havent planned for around 10 years so can you tell me, do you plan for each aspect or choose a couple for the week? Does each activity have to have a focus or can I presume continuous provision covers most of the stuff? We're looking at classic stories, we loosely planned the Gingerbread man, so I'll read the story, use sequencing pictures, make gingerbread men and have playdough with various cutters. Do I then write in detail what each activity can cover or what I expect our children to achieve? Am I making this too complicated or has it become complicated since the pink folder?

Hi everyone, I found this article on a Foundation Stage website sometime in the last couple of years. I have just forwarded them to my friend and I wanted to tell my friend what the source was but forgot to copy the website. I'm sure I found it by googling child-initiated play but can I find it now? NO WAY. I'm wondering if anyone recognises the article and knows where it is from? I'm wondering if the website is no-longer in existence or has been up-dated so isn't showing the same articles from a google search. Here it is: Thanks x CI learning.doc
