I'm after some new water jugs for snack time .... We currently use Ikea ones which are great and importantly the lid stays shut. Even though we don't put much milk/water in them they are quite heavy for the young 2yr olds. Where do you get your water jugs from?

Hi everyone, looking for ideas to add a different dimension to pouring and filling so just thinking at the moment that a thicker liquid could work well, but I'm stumped. The target at the moment is to build children's arm muscles and hand eye coordination. Sorry for the quick post, any ideas?

Just want your thoughts please , we are trying to reduce our resources that we feel are surplus to requirements , we have a telephone box , silver with bt logo , made from mdf and excellent condition, we find the children remove the phone and never really use the box , possibly as not much room , possibly because many of them do not recognise using one or anyone else using one, therefore is it still relevant . Our dilemma is should we sell or convert it to a sensory box or something else , we would still have to pack away though. Your up cycling ideas or any other comments welcome

Hi...after a month we finally interviewed a 20 year old lev 3 today...looks very promising, but her present employer sounds as if employing illegally. So i thought i would ask your advice...she is still an apprentice at her current setting, achieving her lev 2 and lev 3 within that setting ...working 7-5pm every day.......always responsible for opening the nursery every morning....but she has never had a contract at all.........do apprentices have a contract.....I am thinking they should...but her employer has more apprentices than qualified so perhaps did not bother.Would be interesting to see how the law stands.....

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help?? Im due a nursery literacy observation next week and am desperate to achieve an outstanding! I just can't seem to budge from being 'good.' Im planning a lesson around the little red hen. This will follow on from a farm visit we are going on this week (with a little red hen workshop included). I thought that for the whole class activity we could do a whole class re-telling of the story (Pie Corbett style) using props to support it. We work to a high/scope timetable, so we then sit into two groups of 13 ( one group indoor with an adult, one group outdoor with an adult). Id like all the activities to link to the story. So thought ins…

Hi all, I am on, as I know many others are, on the quest to make our outdoor area really 'work' for our children and our setting. We have a great outdoor area in term of space - half hard playground, half grasses area. We have built up a range of resources and areas - crates, water channels with frames, water tray with larger water play resources - tubes, pipes, boats etc, smallish sandpit (desperately want a bigger one!) with resources, digging area, planting and growing area, wildlife area, playhouse and sensory garden, outdoor kitchen (in the process of making it into a sand and natural kitchen), outdoor tables and benches, mark-making resources in a mini greenhouse,…

Our Christmas party is on Wednesday - lots of parents and family members coming. We have always allowed them to take photos at the party with the understanding that they are not put on Facebook etc. This year one parent has said that she doesn't want anyone to take any photos with her child in them. This is given as an option on admission forms but she is the only one to ever have said no photos. Has anyone had to deal with this before? While I respect this parent's wishes, how do I manage the situation without upsetting all the other parents? Do I have a blanket No Photos at all, or photos on playgroup camera only, although we're usually too busy to take many. Do I name …

Hi all, I had a discussion today with a teaching assistant at another school today about the outdoor area. She is trying to 'sort out' the outdoor area and had asked to borrow my Helen Bilton book. We got talking about how we always seem to be 'sorting out' the outdoor area and it has made me start to thing recently that if we are always trying to change it/maintain it then maybe it isn't working? I keep thinking about all the resources that are outside that are always needing replacing/sorting out/etc etc and whether there is a better way forward? I've been reading the posts regarding natural or 'real' outdoor areas with interest and am starting to think about what thi…

I thought I would share with you my idea that I came up with the other day. I have been trying to think of a way of displaying words/letters/writing prompts on or near the writing area as currently they are in a box which the children only access with prompting. So I have bought 2 A4 table-top flipcharts with plastic wallets. I am going to put a selection of writing prompts in each one and they can they be put on the table top for the children to use to support their writing. I'll let you know if it works! Green Hippo x
