Hi after some comments on our questionnaire we are trying to put together a sheet/booklet on how parents can support their children at home I.e. in Maths counting the steps up to bed, recognising numbers on a walk etc. Really just some practical ideas within each area of learning. I looked at the DFE one but wanted more ideas. I have tried a search but didn't come up with anything. Thank you in advance

Please could I ask you to share your views on the use of stickers as rewards. Ie good sitting, great tidying up etc. some staff give them for everything and others are very selective. Thank you in advance.

does anyone have a policy i can look at regarding parents cancelling session spaces with no warning? we have had several parents saying "oh i dont want so and so session from next week because of ....." as we have no policy to cover this we cant really do anything about it. i am sure nurseries wouldn't allow this and probably most pre-schools but have no policy to stop it. thanks x

My head has asked me to put together a food display in the serving area of our dining hall (i.e. my classroom!). I'd thought of a fairly simple display of fruit and vegetables as I'd like to get it up quickly at the start of the year. However, I'd like to do something different from painting them - maybe something 3D? I'm stuck for ideas though. It needs to be fairly durable as it won't get changed often - in a tricky place above the sink. Has anyone got any ideas or directions they can point me to find some? Thank you.

Crying and mum's reaction

Hi there, back to work and what a start! (I do jest, actually most of it has been lovely). we have a set of twins who have limited English. One is happy to go off and play, however his brother cries incessantly and asks for 'mummy'. After a while we called his parents and they took ages to arrive. When they did arrive they said he is usually like this and they leave him crying for an hour or so...they want us to do the same. My staff and myself are uncomfortable with this and so am I. Thoughts please???

Hi all! I'm back to evaluating my provision (once again!). We've have had some alterations made to our classroom which has resulted in a much better, more open, much less cluttered space. I love the whole Communication, Friendly space ideas and also the Community Play classroom pictures which have minimal 'clutter' around the walls - just very simple, uncluttered displays which I would like for our classroom. I am trying desperately not to stick up lots of generic words and picture type resources that are not related to the actual children in the class but don't want to not provide interest and stimulation where needed. Has anyone gone down this route and found how to g…
