Hi We have a concerned parent as her three yr old keeps getting muddled when talking about himself and others. Ie can you go for a walk not can I co for a walk. Basically referring to himself in the wrong context. Any ideas with games or support. Thanks

I was wondering if any of you have made mosaic displays for outdoors. We have a small courtyard and was thinking of making a few squares of mosaic to hang up. However the snag is that I have never attempted this before. Does anyone have any tips on what to use (such as the backing wood) or how best to go about it?

UPDATE on the Key Person

Hi Everyone I previously asked peoples views on the Key Person Approach and how it effects your daily practice, thanks very much to those who replied. I am happy to say that on Monday I integrated the Island of Intimacy which was a focused time solely for Key Person and Key Children. Initially it was only meant to last 10mins and will eventually be a time for practitioners to help their key children develop and complete next steps. Well so far it’s a hit with staff and more importantly the children!! I observed that after 10mins the children and staff were so engaged in their groups that Island Time ran over to more of a 30min session!! Children now know their…

I really want to improve my small world provision. It's a bit 'nothingy' at the moment and is something I tend to feel I've just got out rather than something that is really providing some good learning opportunities. I've recently acquired a bit of furniture which I think I can use to store small world sets which will be far more accessible to the children. So, I'm looking for ideas for the kind of sets I could create. I'm sure I read a discussion about this on here not that long ago but despite much searching can't find it again. So, based on what my children have been into so far I have: 1) space, 2) pirates, 3) princesses, 4) fairies, 5) dolls house, 6) dinosaur…

We have a child who's dad has died over the weekend - we are not sure but we think it may be suicide. For anyone who remembers this is the boy with the pinch marks on his ears. Can anyone help us with what to say or books to buy to help him get through this - we have never dealt with this before

Key Person Question's.

Hi Everyone I'm currently studying my HND in Childhood Practice which is a college based management qualification for the Early Years and as part of my qualification I have to implement a change within a Nursery Setting. Now my proposed change is to implement the “Island of Intimacy” and Personal Key Care routines within a 2’s room in a privately run nursery. Being a Scottish nursery, there is a Key Worker system in place but its not as detailed or in-depth as a EYFS nursery as the Key Person approach is not a mandatory requirement of the Scottish frameworks. So they do the paperwork but have a relationship with all children in the room. I basically want the s…

My mind at the moment is spinning and I really need to get some advice and other points of view. Please excuse me if I ramble.... I am the manager of a busy community pre-school in a very rural area, we are based in the school. A few years ago we were finding it difficult to form a committee and the school took us under their umbrella. We are still independant with our day to day running, finances and staffing. Only now we have the EY teacher on our committee. In January 2012 we moved from a small classroom into a disused portable building, this move enabled us to take four more children each session and gave us more space, an office and a fabulous outside area. Thi…

Hi! Little chap in my Reception class is about to become a big brother. No other siblings. Sooner rather than later as his mum may have to have a c-section next week at 37 weeks. He is a lovely little chap - rough and tumble type, loves construction and super-hero play, can't sit still for a minute, cheeky sense of humour, very inquisitive and hyper sensitive (always has been) - and has not mentioned the baby once. I've got some stories. We've ordered a couple of new bathable dolls anyway... Can anyone suggest how we can support him through this change if we sense he needs it? Thanks
