Hi A while ago someone asked me if u knew anything about chat walls where children fill an A3 sheet of photos. Such as their families, toys, favourite activities etc. My understanding is that it supports and recognises attachments and things that are important to the child at that point in their lives. It helps separations and recognises its ok to be upset when saying good bye but the reassurance mummy/ daddy is coming back rather than using distraction. Can anyone shed any light or point me in the right direction Thanks

I've been pondering for a while how I could help my children to access different software, online activities with more independence i.e. not being reliant on me or another adult finding something for them. Some are brilliant (such as one last year who regularly wanted to 'check his ebay!'), others aren't so much. I also want to still give them choice but try to move them on from randomly choosing anything. I had an idea and just wanted to run it past you. I'm not sure if I'm being too restrictive/obsessive! I was thinking I could set up folders on the desktop for different areas e.g. maths, phonics, drawing. Then into each folder I could put links/shortcuts to…

We were very excited to get a water butt along with our new canopy and the children really enjoy helping themselves to water to water the plants. So far nobody has tried to drink it but we do have a jug of water outside to drink so maybe that's why. We had a guy out yesterday checking our water and systems for legionnaire's disease and the temperature etc. I haven't seen the report yet but he apparently told our site manager that we have to get rid of the water butt as it poses too much of a risk. Thoughts please...

We have a very small room that houses 12 children aged 2 and 3 - We have some money to spend this Summer and my plan is to 'calm down' the area as it is too full and busy (both with colour and resources) Have you any suggestions for resources that you couldn't live without or ideas on how to arrange the room etc?

Hi all, I was just wondering if anyone else uses story-sacks each week/fortnight or has a book of the week and/or song of the week and if so, could you explain how you organise and impliment it? I've read a few different articles that recommend the use of a collection of stories and books that the children get to know really well over the course of the school year but have never really managed to get my head around how it would actually work practically in-terms of introducing the book and resources (if using sacks) without it just adding to the list of things that we need to get through while still maintaining CI play. We have our favourite songs (which tend to be the o…

Snack Bar

we set up a snack bar for the first time this year, and i want to do so again, but have had a few teething problems, and wondered if anyone has any ideas for improvement, or could share how theirs is run - times/maximum number of children who can come at a time etc. we're a school nursery class with rising threes too. we had it inside in september, in our messy room, and the older children quickly got the hang of it, and needed only minimal support. when 15 rising threes started in january they have needed lots of support, with lots of spilt drinks etc, and it has been hard to focus on anything else in the room, so adult led activities have been harder and observing th…

Transition To Reception Class

Help!! 25 of our Nursery children are moving up to Reception class in September, and we are meeting next week to chat about transition activities. We have one autisitc child, and some with emotional needs. We are just along the corridor from the Reception class. Last year at the same meeting I suggested several ideas, and almost all were rejected. We were only allowed to visit the empty classroom and not play, just look, the Teacher popped in for 5 minutes one morning, and we opened up the gate between us another morning for an hour and children were able to move freely between areas. That was it! I am wondering what other settings do, so that I can go in saying th…
