This is a quote I found in the Telegraph about snap inspections of schools. “People fear that no notice inspection sends a message that we don't trust the profession, that Ofsted has become an arm of the Spanish Inquisition,” said the Education Secretary. Great, eh?! I hope nobody has a visit from the Spanish Inquisition today!

Hi everyone, I'm having a bit of a headache at the moment about how to store our mark-making equipment. Over the past few years we have tried a number of things including: small open tool-boxes, shelves inside the door with bags, plastic draws and our current storage - a covered mini-greenhouse with trays and boxes for the equipment. The greenhouse has been successful for storing paper, clipboards, whiteboards, notebooks etc but not so for storing the mark-making tools. Whatever we try we seem to end up with crayons, pencils etc on the floor, trodden into the grass, broken and dirty. However much 'training' we do with the children the equipment never seem to end up in t…

Next term we are starting with some work on animals. We've had a talk about it and come up with lots of questions we want to find the answers to (theirs, not mine) mostly around minibeasts - I have a class who are just a little bit obsessed with ladybirds and spiders! I asked them for ideas for a new role play area and they suggested a zoo. I like the idea as they came up with it but I'm struggling to think what we could actually do for it. The space I have for setting up role play is somewhat restricted and I have a 'shop front' piece of furniture which has to be included as there is nowhere else in the classroom I can put it. When we get back I'll talk to the…

Hi I have some money to spend and wanted to start up a "lending library". I own a Pre-school with children aged from 2 - 5 years and there are 45 on the register. My deputy came up with the idea a while ago of a book pack to go home if parents wanted them. In the pack is a book and a laminated page of things to do at home related to the story. We have 12 of these packs. At first parents were interested but obviously we need to extend this with more books. I don't think I necessarilly need to have a page of things to do - although all ideas would be gratefully received. Can anyone tell me what works well for them - how many books for my size setting - do …

Hi all, I have the new EYFS framework and have been asked to give a presentation on the new EYFS on our teacher training day when we return after Easter break. I wondered if anyone could help with ideas/links or if anyone has some key notes from the document they think would be helpful and could share. thanks in advance.
