Well what can i say been a little while since i have been here as a lot has been going on - firstly had our ofsted visit last week - fortunately the same lovely lady that did my suitability interview and despite encouraging comments and positivity re the changes i have made and vision I have we did not get the good i wanted - have to admit i shed a tear- how embarassing but after reading the report today it sounds so much better than the 'S' word on it's own. oldest member of staff and longest serving left today - early retirement - sad but right move for her and probably for us too day of ofsted visit - senco/ level 3 decides to hand in notice - shocked to say the lea…

Last week some of my boys started a car wash (well actually it started with washing a bench pretending to be a car, I suggested getting the actual cars out and then it became a jet wash because we couldn't find the cars - have a feeling another class may have borrowed them!). Anyway, I'd really like to develop this next week especially around mark making and number recognition which are things these particular boys need to work on. However I'm having a complete mental block - I can't think how to resource this other than putting cars and washing tools in the water tray (I was going to start with the small world stuff and then move on to the ride ons later on when we …

Hi everyone, don't know about everyone working in a busy children's environment, but the wear and tear on equipment with lots of little hands using it....simply the equipment wears out and I am in the fortunate position to have some funding from local Children's centre network and have decided that the home area units are looking shabby (doors and knobs off etc.) can anyone recommend a really good quality furniture i.e. kitchen units. many thanks!

Hi! My TA has been talking to me today about some reading she has done about role-play (she is doing some research into learning through role-play for her early years education degree). She said that she had read in a number of journal articles and books that adults should only intervene in role-play when they need to introduce something new or when there are problems e.g. arguing etc. All other times this should be completely the children's domain unless the adult is invited into their world. I am fully aware of the need to intervene in a sensitive way and not to take-over the children's play but I wasn't aware that we shouldn't really be intervening at all. Is this …

I've just put my 2 year old nephew to bed and was watching him while he was having a drink in the bathroom. He has water in a coloured but transparent cup and as he put it down on the bath he was really interested in the coloured patterns that the water was making on the shiny white surface. Just thought that this could be a nice investigation/exploration type activity if you could provide a few different coloured cups/bottles with a little bit of water on top of a shiny white surface? Then you could add small items to the water to see how that effects the reflection. (The cups are cheap toddler cups from asda) Just an idea - probably been done before! Green Hippo x

I'm thinking of putting together some boxes or a trolley for outdoors that could just be taken outside to make setting up in the mornings quicker and easier. Obviously I'd put other stuff out during the day but was thinking this might be a way of at least ensuring the basics were there. I have lots of ideas for den boxes/windy day boxes/rainy day boxes etc. from a course I went on but I'm wondering about a more 'basic' CLL and PSRN box/trolley. What do you think? What would you include?

Firstly my apologies if the title of this is confusing - I really didn't quite know what to call it. Secondly, my apologies for yet another e-mail with a question (probably a stupid one) from me? As you can probably tell I'm doing a lot of reflecting on my own practice and provision this holiday! So, the question... In my classroom I have the usual construction, small world, playdough, making area, reading corner, writing table etc etc set up. I have continuous provision plans for some of these and am working on the others. At the moment I put a 'Can you...' question in each area e.g. Can you build some new furniture for the 3 bears? when we were doing Gold…
