Hi all, Just wondering what others book corners are like? We have a lovely early-excellence book shelf with room to display 10-12 books, front-facing. Underneath, we have 4 boxes: finding-out books, stories, books about numbers and songs and rhymes. However, I usually decide on a few books that I would like on the front-facing shelf for between 2 to 4 weeks depending on interests etc but the books are continually getting mixed up. I am also interested in using core-books but not sure how to impliment this and how to provide them: Do you have the same books displayed for a few weeks? How do you make sure the same books are put back on the shelf or in the correct box? D…

Hi, I'm a bit new to all this so don't know if i'm in the right place but would love some advice. I have an interview for my first teaching post on friday, i'm very, very nervous. I've been asked to do a 25 minute session in the outdoor area. They have just about everything you could wish for and i can teach any area of learning. I was thinking of doing something around the Gruffalo or minibeasts but would love some advice becuase i really want to impress! Thanks for any suggestions xxx

Hi all I have received an email today from my local PSLA.......just part of this reproduced: During the summer the Alliance was told by PPL that pre-schools and nurseries may have to pay an annual licence of at least £100 if they wanted to play recorded music in their settings, unless they played only nursery rhymes. This part of the PPL review is a consultation that ends on Friday 14th October. We would strongly recommend that all early years settings have their say....... The consultation is at http://www.ppluk.com?Documents/downloads/S...ion%20Paper.pdf.

Hope someone might be able to help me clear up this matter.... We are a committee-led charity pre-school and at our recent AGM I raised the matter of confidentiality and not sharing details of what is discussed at meeting particularly staffing matters. My problem is that the chair says that minutes are 'public property' and can be shared with anyone so nothing in them is confidential. But I can't find anywhere where it says that minutes must be made public - just that if a written request is received to see charity accounts then they must be provided wihtin two months. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Many thanks,

Do any of you lovely people at Pre-schools ask your parents to enter into a signed contract for the next term? Im not talking about the funding agreement here jsut how many sessions in general. If so is it legally binding? The reason I ask is although it has always happened last term the amount of parents who CHANGED their minds literally til the last day of summer and over summer hols!! this year was unbelievable! This was nightmare for me when doing staff rotas and calculating staff ratio!! There were staff I had to say sorry I have to cut your hours inc myself when they came back after Summer! I want to try and reduce this happening next term. Any advice will be gr…

Zoolab

Hi there Has anyone had a visit from Zoolab - they rang me this afternoon about a visit - they are a mobile zoo who bring in mini beasts and snakes and other creepy crawlies to show the children - my feeling is it's a bit much for 2 year olds but I just wondered if anyone had ever booked a visit. I have looked on their website and it seems ok but I would rather hear from a trusted source - ie. other nurseries. thank you EJAB I have been on the forum before but I couldn't remember my login or user name or anything so have had to create a new one!!

Hi all I have just taken a room leader position in Preschool with a lovely nursery near my home. . I am excited as I have been given the go ahead to develop and change the rooms. The setting has a big main room with all areas except creative as I am lucky to have a messy room that doubles up as dining room. The messy room lead out into a good size paved area that is used for freeflow. The areas will need some twiching but my biggest obstacle is being able to staff the main room, creative and freeflow at the same time. There are 3 of us, one can be in each area but when the door goes our room has to answer it , when the children need the toilet or want to wa…
