I'm thinking of investing in one of these and would like some input from all you lovely folk out there who already have one - what are the positive or negative aspects of the one you have? Which is the most sensibly priced? Where is the best place to get one from? etc Any thought gratefully received!

I wonder if anyone can give me some advice about how to support a child in our preschool please? She has recently started writing her name and writes each letter in capitals. We haven't had a chance to talk to mum or dad about it but we think probably when her parents write with her at home they write in capitals. Try as we might we can't seem to get her to write the lower case letters and she gets quite cross when we try to correct her, however gently! She is also confused when we talk about letter sounds because she knows all the letter names and can't really tie the two together, especially when we sound out words for her to write. She'll be going to schoo…

G&t Child In Maths

Hello..... After completing a problem solving activity with my h/a children I am amazed by the ability of one particular child.... The problem goes.....Noah saw 12 legs walk by the ark....how many creatures could he see? The girl went off independently and came back with a sheet full of answers....she told me that 3 4's were 12 and that because a penquin had 2 legs compared to an elephant with 4 you would need to double the penquins compared to the elephants (hope you understand what I mean). I then extended this by saying what about if Noah saw 16 legs walk past the ark.....less that one minute later she had told me it would be 2 spiders because double 8 is 16!!! Now…

Hi everyone, Has anyone got any ideas of challenging activities for the more able children in class for PSRN and CLL? We have thought of putting challenge questions up in each area for the MA chdn to read e.g. Can you make a model with 6 eyes and 2 heads?.... We havea Foundation Stage Review soon so any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Hi Today one of my colleagues read the story 'Little Red Riding Hood' whilst being assessed for her NVQ. All fine, no problems. Now she asked me if she should change the ending... the woodsman killed the wolf with his axe. I considered this and said I thought not because it's a Ladybird book for children, and I felt the children would be happier knowing the nasty wolf had been killed. Now the assessor said she would normally change the ending for something like that, perhaps gloss over the killing bit. My colleague didn't get marked down, because she had sought and taken the advise of her manager. Out of interest what would you have done?

A collague of mine has been approached by a parent who is struggling to potty train their very shy son. Although he has mastered going to the toilet for a wee both at home and in our setting but will not poo on the toilet at all under any circumstance. This morning a letter has been passed to the toddlers team from the parents who are expressing their wishes in this matter and asking for our support. This is all very well and good but we do not think they are approaching this in the wrong way - they want us to encourage him to poo IN HIS PANTS but in THE BATHROOM. !!!!!!!!!??????? The issue of allowing him privacy to do so is also requested because as men…

Hi Would anyone be willing to share what rules you have in your setting and how you promote them to the children please? I am looking to develop ours as the one we currently has does not seem to work with one particular child as she struggles to grasp that it is me who is sad with her and that is why her name is on the sad face if she hasn't been following instructions. In her eyes she is happy so shouldn't be on the sad face.

Don't know if this has been posted previously, so forgive me if it has! Did you know that Community Playthings are currently offering 10% off their starter box of wooden blocks? It's the 'Introductory set with storage chest F152' and the offer is only valid until 31st March. Good set for childminders, or small settings, though I guess you could buy several sets if you wanted to bulk things up! They are also now saying that most of their goods are delivered overnight, this was certainly true of a drawer unit I ordered after our flood. Nice to get a reduction on things, especially theirs! ( also, if you are a user of YPO catalogue, you get 2% off CP equipment, all the time…
