Key Workers/person
by Guest- 12 replies

Hi there. Im just wondering if i can pick your brains about how exactly Key workers are used in your settings? Ours are mainly just set up for the paperwork/learning journey side of things but im looking to change this soon. Sort of just looking for info as to what a key worker or person does for their child and are resposiblie for on a daily basis, such as do they care only for those children? Nappies, toileting, feeding etc. Or do they have 'key worker' time but share the care for the other children equally between staff? Any comments, ideas, examples are welcome? Thank you

We are trying to get more organised and although we have a Diversity / Equality, CLL, PSRN and SEN Staff members who are also the co-ordinators for these four areas I wondered whether any settings have job descriptions for these or could suggest where I could get this information from. Many Thanks

Hello all! Finally it has happened, and 2 in 1 day. Parents wanting to know why we don't sit children down and teach them their letters. One is convinced that school will expect her son to be able to write his name when he starts in September, and I'm not really sure I've convinced her otherwise. Frustrating really as this particular chap wasn't at all interested in writing or drawing at all, but now, as relevant resources are available to him, he is 'writing' all the time. He wrote me a menu for me to look at when I was in his imaginary cafe this week, and a ticket for me for the train he had built, and often writes plans on a clipboard when he is being a builder in …

Mouse Rhyme: Ros Bayley
by Guest- 14 replies

I attended some training with Ros Bayley a few years ago at which she told a little rhyme that involved a mouse puppet hiding in her hand. The rhyme may have been a re-worked traditional rhyme, I'm not sure. I am desperate to remember it. I recently bought her 'Mouse Raps' but the rhyme is not in there, it's short and sweet and simple. Does anyone know what I am rambling about????? It's driving me crazy ! Thanks x

Hi I need to pick your brains again! I'm after some ideas for things that the children can do when they first enter nursery at the start of a session. At the moment, I follow a whole school approach which involves the children doing action songs on the carpet with a TA while I greet them and chat to parents. It normally takes about 15 minutes for the flow of children coming into nursery to die down, and the TA spends all this time with the children doing these action songs until I'm ready to take over and take the register. We currently have 31 children in our morning session (and it's due to rise with our Easter intake) and it's becoming very chaotic. The children …

Hi - just thought I would pick your brains! I'm not very knowledgable about classical music, although I wish I was. I recognise pieces of music but can never put names to the music! I was wondering whether you have got any favourite pieces, particularly ones which you enjoy using and sharing with the children in your settings. Are their any pieces which you find really useful for particular a purpose: I'm thinking of, for example, Flight of the Bumblebee, for listening to 'fast' music, moving rapidly or linking to moving like a particular creature; or Aquarium from Carnival of the Animals to fit a 'watery' or 'mysterious' theme or evoke a range of movement. Not sure i…

Stories - Respecting Own Space /body
by Guest- 0 replies

Anyone know any good stories/social stories about respecting own body , keeping personal things private. Its not a huge issue but we have a few children who keep going into the toilet cubicles together and they like to 'compare'their bits and pieces. All very natural curiosity and we have had chats about what 'private' is and what it means in respect of personal space. We would just like to approach it from another perspective and wonder if anyone knows any good stories/books which would be suitable ???? Dizz
