Continuous Provision Help
by Guest- 6 replies

Hi We are just in the process of revamping our continuous provision We are NOT a pack away setting but seem to pack everything up everyday and then set everything up the next day and by everything I mean everything small world, sand, water construction, role play, jigsaws, dough, etc etc... I think it is too much (just this is what was done before I came to the setting) and as as we are setting up everyday it is not really child initiated as the adults decide what will go in each area each day. We do have resources on the shop floor but they are in large boxes or trays and if the children get something out they get everything out which causes a big mess and …

Stage Area - What To Do?
by Guest- 6 replies
- 1.8k views
Hi In my classroom (nursery 3-4 year olds) we have a type of stage area (with spindles and bannister on the edge) which is tucked away around a corner. It is proving a problem as what to put on there as it tucked away it becomes a problem area for behaviour and mess. Since September we have tried: Role play - home corner - it ended up a mess everyday - with cupboards pulled over and children also used them to climb on the bannister) Sensory area - this was successful for a while Reading and listening area - books were ripped and listening station broken beyond repair!!! Last week we put a tent up there but it was broken in less than a day It is a large…

I am thinking of buying some wooden blocks from Community Playthings. There are up to 26 children present at a time and we are a pack away setting. I have two storage rooms/cupboards and like a lot of people, every inch counts!!!! During half term I intend going in to have a real sort out (staff won't believe me as iI am a bit of a hoarder) One of the cupboards is up 4 steps - which is a problem but the other one, which is smaller is on the same level as the Pre-school. In the smaller cupboard we have to put the heavy things like the climbing frame, wheeled units and trolleys, etc. I would like the large blocks that we can use on the floor. Is the Introductory …

Hi Everyone I work in day care and I'm fairly new to this fabulous forum (have spent the last few weeks reading as much of it as I can; addicted doesn't begin to describe!!) and love how supportive everyone is. It's reassuring to hear we aren't alone in our issues I'm indulging in a little escapism (actually i'm using it as a means to try and get back to sleep in the middle of the night lol)...if you had a maigc carpet, which setting would you love to visit and why? I love the idea of the forest schools and Pen Green is an obviuos choice - but there must be countless others who maybe don't get as much publicity..and are a little more achievable to us e…

Hello All I am an occasional visitor to the FSF and know that the regulars are an extra-ordinary fount of knowledge so I'd like to pick your brains please. I try to enable my children to be as independent as possible (essential in a mixed Reception, Year 1 and 2 class) and love to let them make their own gloop, playdough etc. I am struggling with letting them loose with the food colouring! I know that food colouring isn't wildly expensive but in these straightened times my head is questioning our consumption ... and it is frustrating when a whole bottle of has disappeared by 9.15am! Especially as it is not necessarily into the gloop/dough so can't be diluted with…

Ooh I am so excited! I have just ordered 4 of these cloakroom trolleys for our packaway pre-school. The very nice man at Norseman Direct is even going to colour code them so I have a red trolley with red trays, a green one, blue one and yellow one. A bit pricey but hopefully well worth it with all the children having their own tray and peg. I think i'm a bit sad really ......

Proposed Nursery Nurse Wage Cut
by Guest- 9 replies

Hi , Just wondered if any one else has any information on the proposed wage cut for nursery nurses, a friend has been sent an email saying that she may loose £4.500 if the proposal goes a head. She is in North east Lincolnshire and we were wondering if it was happening just in her region or all over the country.

Activities That Challenge?
by Guest- 3 replies
- 2.7k views
Hi we have a very bright child who has been at the nursery long-term. She is very bright and needs to be challenged through activities/play in order to prevent boredom setting in. As she has been with us for a long time she quite often gets fed up with the activities and resources that have been arranged and has now taken to bossing other children around! Any help/advice or examples of activities to get her motivated, involved and thinking would be greatly appreciated. p.s. have spoken to parents and they are also struggling at home with activities and television seems to be the most favourable option

Please, I need your help. I have a 5 1/2 year-old child in my classroom who has eating problems. He had been fed by his mum until the beginning of this school year. She said it was an emotional compensation for her son and herself! She knew it was wrong, but was working on it and would stop doing so then. Well, that was in September, after I had spoken with her because it took 'ages' for the boy to eat his lunch and he disliked eating his fruits, no problems with any other type of unhealthy snacks. He is an only child. We have an allotted time for these periods, so 15 minutes for morning/afternoon snack and 30 minutes for lunch. The rest of the children in the class don't…
