Hi all, We are in the process of preparing to advertise for our first apprentice and I wanted to grab some advice off here. I understand that apprentices under 18 cannot work for more than 8 hours per day OR over 40 hours per week. We ideally need the apprentice to work 3 long days (7.15-6.15), 1 shorter day (7.15-1.15) and one day off (we will of course entitle them to the necessary breaks etc). Am I able to employ them for the longer days? I know that it is over the 8 hours a day BUT they are working less than the 40 hours throughout the whole week? I really want to make sure that I am getting right! Any advice would be much appreciated TIA

Hi! Please can I ask for some advice regarding DSL training? I am the manager of the setting but my deputy manager and one of my room leaders are DSL lead and deputy DSL. When they were last on training, they were told that their manager had to attend the modules 1 and 2 training aswell. I totally see the logic in this as I understand that my safeguarding knowledge needs to be sound but not once have I ever known or been told this by anybody (otherwise I would be DSL myself). When I questioned this, I was told that even though it wasn't a necessity, I should do it for good practice (I have done modules 1 and 2 but a long time ago). Anyway, I booked myself…

Hi Everyone I am a reception Teacher and started a new school in September. The school has been trying Early Excellence for the past 2 years but it it not working for our particular children. Management want us to go back to tighter timetable with less child initiated and more focus activities. ( At the moment the children get at least 3 hours a day free CI play). I would be really interested in seeing examples of your timetables to see how you slot in carpet time (Phonics, Maths and Literacy inparticular), Teacher led activities and and Child Intitiated. Thank you Jac

Not sure if this is the correct place to post but here goes .. We are looking at expanding our school nursery to offer afternoon sessions, it will be open for 30 hours a week in total. What we are struggling to work out is lunchtimes - can Nursery aged children just join in with the main school for lunch, being supervised by lunchtime staff who don't have a qualification? I would've thought the answer would be no?! In which case as there are 2 members of qualified staff in the nursery I presume they will have to stagger their lunch break. If you work in a school nursery how do you organise your day with regards to staffing?

Hello, Can anyone please advise if there is a simple way that parents can contribute their own observations from home about their children (not just when commenting on my observations)? Would really appreciate any advice on how best to do this. thanks

Hi. We are looking into moving our toddlers from a lower floor area to an upstairs room. Could any one give me some advice about fire regulations, how it works within your setting and how parents have felt about the toddlers being based upstairs?
