Hi All I am not from the UK but am teaching at a British International School. I would love to get some idea of the support teachers get before school and after the children have left in terms of other trained teachers and/or teaching assistants. I am used to having more support than I am currently getting, but before approaching the Head, I would like to get an idea of what the 'general' expectations are in the UK. Thank you

Nightmare!! I need help. We recently introduced the 15 hour entitlement to our school Nursery (instead of 12.5). We are really struggling with the routine and the logistics as everything has a knock on effect and we feel that it is not working in the best interests of the children. Currently the first nursery session begins at 9.00am until 12.00pm. We then have a 15 minute turn around time until the afternoon nursery session starts 12.15pm until 3.15pm. We have 3 members of staff and we start going on our half hour lunch breaks at 11.00 (break 1 and break 2) and they finally finish around 2.00pm. During these 3 hours another member of staff is employed to cover. …

We have a child that doesn't settle well within the setting. I offer her support and encourage her to join in with activities. My colleagues are now making comments that I should leave her alone and that I may be encouraging her unsettled behaviour. Would love to know anyones thoughts.

Is it within a local authority or school policy about how they graduate new children into reception? The majority of our preschoolers have just started in their school of choice and I am receiving feedback from parents about how the school filters the children in, initially half days in small groups. They will then begin full days towards the middle of October. There does not seem to be a system. Age and abilities of the children are not con…

Hi There, We have a little boy, who is just over 3, starting at our pre-school in a week or two. Within the first 10 min of his pre-start visit he bit another child. According to Mum this is something he regularly does. Does anyone have any ideas and tips on how to handle and deal with this, does anyone have a 'biting policy', is it something we need to put into place? Not sure where to start as we luckily enough, have never had a biter before. Thanking you all Scottiedog
