Would really appreciate some tips please from anyone on behaviour management. I have a large class (31) and generally they are a lovely group. However, I have about 6 or 7 who can be quite noisy/disruptive on the carpet and will not do what I ask first time. Nearly all of them do, but their compliance is almost lost among those who are noisy/chatty etc. It often takes those 6/7 quite alot of me saying I am waiting etc for them to give me their full attention ( they do in the end but not instantly). Ideally, I would like them all to be silent as soon as I ask them to be – what strategies do you use that work well? As an NQT, I feel (especially) like I am being judged a…

Hi All Used this today with Nursery children on their first day in school (see pictures here!) Have made pancakes hundreds of times before I wasn't sure about the 'faff' of separating the yolks and whites and 'beating to a peak'! But the language we got out of it and watching how changes occured to the ingredients was brilliant! Try them! Pancakes 3 large eggs 115g/4oz plain flour 140ml of milk a pinch of salt How to... Separate the eggs Add everything to the yolks (apart from the salt) mix into a batter whisk the egg whites to peaks and add salt fold the egg white into the batter It should look bubbly and the thickness of double crea…

HI I will probably 'twig' as soon as I send this Just looking at a very interesting job application and seriously thinking about going for it but the details include: Working closely with a range of staff from other disciplines in the TASCC, MATS and voluntary services I am OK with'TASCC' but any ideas on 'MATS' - I am guessing maybe something to do with 'mother and toddler' but can't find anything anywhere! I can't believe I am seriously considering moving out of preschool and trying pastures new but some gut feeling is telling me to give it a go

Last year we started doing a pen pal system with a nursery, unfortunatly we did not find much time to do this so this year would like to try alot harder. We would like to do this with a few different settings from around the country and world. We are also open all year round so a setting similar would be brilliant. We have permission from parents to send photos and artwork and the children really like this. If anyone is interested please give me a buzz. Look forward to hearing from you The Haven Nursery

Maternity Leave And Rights

I wonder if anyone is an expert on maternity leave/pay/entitlements etc? I am puzzling over what I need to do because one of my ladies who is on maternity leave has just announced she's pregnant again! If an employee gets pregnant before she returns from maternity leave I'm presuming she is entitled to maternity leave again on the basis that her maternity leave is counted as a period of continuous employment? And therefore to maternity pay if she earns enough during her qualifying period? I have looked at the hmrc and acas websites but they don't have an answer to the specific question "what happens if an employee gets pregnant on maternity leave?". It is possi…

Key Person Rebellion!

Hi, Just sharing my thoughts and ideas... I run a small Pre-school with 4 staff and approx 26 children on role. We are each key person to up to 9 children depending on the number of hours we work. As the year draws to a close I still feel as though I really don't know some of my key children very well whereas some other children who I just happen to engage with a lot I feel I know much better. I can see how the key person system is very important in large settings or with very young children but with our 3-5 year olds it feels as though we are all everybody's key person, if you see what I mean. I keep wondering if there isn't a better way to organise it. The…

Found this site Free for kids which gives lots of ideas, stories for stranger danger.. I often felt it is this time of year when children are out more and summer holiday is looming that it is a good time to introduce or discuss this. We often know children will listen more to us than mum or dad...(I often had children tell parents is is xxxx because Inge told me , some parents also asked us to raise this issue because they listen to us) some is very American.. but interesting... the first U tube video is worth a look.. -Safety Now- stranger danger - shows how easy it is to get children to go with you.
