hi just wondered if anyone could clarify something for me! on thursday one of my mums called and asked if i could provide cover from 11.30am-3.30pm for her daughter( i usually care for her on a mon, tues, weds) as her childminder had to go to hospital unexpectedly, i said yes but it would mean i would have 4 children under 5 so would have to ring ofsted and inform them( the reason i did this was because my friend who is a childminder was told by her inspector 2 months ago as long as u inform them its ok) got thru to someone at ofsted who put me thru to an inspector and she spoke to me like a piece of dirt virtually shouting saying ' you shouldnt go over your numbers!' she…

Hi everyone I really need peoples help and advice if possible. We are having our R.E. ofsted inspection 2 weeks after the Easter holiday and because we follow the HERE I AM scheme of work our topic after Easter is 'Good News'. I am a Nursery teacher and the amount of time that the inspector will be observing us for is 20 mins and within that time we have to do a small input (recall), differentiated activities and a plenary. I am finding it really hard to fit it all in to the time given and was after any short and snappy ideas for the differentiated activities. They will be observing the RELATE section and what the HERE I AM states for Nursery to do in the input is…

Childminder With A Dog?

Hi all, I'm hoping someone can help me out. I'm considering becoming a childminder, but can't seem to find information to let me know if the fact that I have a west highland terrier who is 9 months old is likely to cause issues. I don't have the facilities in my home for her to be kept separate from the children at all times, though I can divide the garden so they would have separate outdoor spaces... this would mean she could be outside for part of the day, or even all of it in summer, but in winter I couldn't leave her out for very long, she'd have to be inside with the children. Any help or pointers would be wonderful!! Danielle

Hi I have my malleable area set up with basic provision which is generally things that are to be used with play-dough type materials e.g. cutters, rolling pins, dough knives etc I want to put other malleable things on the malleable table e.g. cooked spagetti, shaving foam etc. Should I just leave the basic resources available for use with all malleable materials or should I take these things away? Or is it better to have a table which always has play-dough and have the tuff-spot tray elsewhere with other malleable materials with their own resources? Thanks Green Hippo xx

I am looking at updating my garden area and would love to hear what continuous provision you have outdoors? We currently have the usual bikes etc, a wooden play house, a den, a pop up greenhouse and a picnic table! ( only a small garden) x

I am working with a four-year-old who struggles to allow anyone else to be in control. He tries to 'manage' how the other children play and gets angry if children or staff don't do what he wants. Has anyone got any good activities for helping him to let go a bit and see that it's ok not to be 'in charge' of everything?

Hi Everyone, Just want a little bit of advice here please - I have a few boys who even though they have wonderful manipulative skills small world, tiny construction etc, they are not holding their pencil "correctly" as their parents would put it - I know when I went on a course re boys and use of pencils/pens it was discussed how boys hands developmentally are not ready for intricate hand writing until sometimes at around the age of 5. I have said to the parents concerned, that as the boys love to draw - are beginning to form letters in their name we should not intrude too much - I feel an adult saying "hold your pen in a certain way will turn the boys off to the won…

At the end of this month we will be having our "Easter Concert" (Primary and Foundation Stage) which does not have anything to do with Easter. This year it will be around musicals and our Foundation Stage groups will be singing "Do-Re-Mi" from "The Sound of Music". That hasn't been a problem. The children love the song and we have the ideas for their dress-up. Just on Thursday we received our list with the common rehearsal days and knew that on the week of the 16th we will be having 2 rehearsals with all of the groups. We also have a field-trip that had been planned and organised several months ago. So, I have decided to change the topic I had for this week and chang…
