I was told last week by another playgroup leader that the chair of the committee has to have a suitability interview with ofsted. Please tell me that they have got hold of the wrong end of the stick, because if this true then we will never ever get another chairperson. Please, you knowledgable souls, can you put my mind at rest.Thank you. Mary

I think this has been discussed before, but can't seem to find what I'm after in a search. We have at long last managed to acquire an interactive whiteboard, but now we have nothing to use on it! Can I ask for some suggestions from you lovely lot, as we can't really afford expensive mistakes. Thanks, Sue

Things To Take Home.

Just thought that I would ask your opinions on something that came up at playgroup this week. Our chairman asked to meet with all the staff at the end of the session. Apparently it had been noted that unlike a playgroup in a nearby village, we didn't routinely make something creative to go home at the end of the session. She virtually said that if we didn't make more of an effort then we would lose children because the parents wanted them to bring something home. We all tried to explain about the EYFS and child initiated planning and that it was unfair to take a child away from an activity of their choosing just to make /create something. We also asked if the parents w…

Hi everyone hope you have had a good xmas. Just wanted to chat about writing in the FS this topic keeps cropping up at school and would like to hear others views. When the children attempt to write and then give meaning to their work i write what they have ascribed to their mark making underneath their work after praising their efforts. I see this as modelling writing for the children i then judge whether the child can trace over my writing and in turn if they can go further and copy my writing. How far the task is taken depends on each individual and their concentration span. Please can you tell me what you think about this process the children are happy and since the m…

Hi I have been told at short notice that I need to do an assembly tomorrow about St Andrews Day. I know very little about St Andrews day and have been trawling the internet for some simple information about St Andrew, St Andrews Day and how it is celebrated, but have had little success. Does anyone know how St Andrews Day is celebrated in Scotland? Is there a story? Really struggling to think of how to present this to primary children in a comunity school PLEASE HELP! xx

"the Perfect Day"!

I'm at the very start of a long process of developing the learning environment indoors and outdoors, in our room for 3-4 year old children. At the moment I'm gathering the views of all the staff in terms of what works well and also what they would like to change/develop/introduce in order to make the environment/routine, etc. more effective and responsive to the needs of the children, in line with the EYFS framework. Following that, I want to create some kind of "vision" document which looks at where we are now and a series of steps to take us to the environment that we all ultimately want to create. Within this, we will obviously look at any documentation/paperwork…

So, it was the full moon today - there are theories that children's behaviour alters when we have windy weather or a full moon. Did anyone notice anything different today? Our children seemed louder and slightly more excited than usual. Would love to hear what anyone else has found!
