We may have the opportunity to renovate our outdoor area and are looking for ideas on how to do this. If this goes ahead we will have a considerable amount of funding so i am really looking for gardens which have been landscaped with different areas such as a sensory garden, climbing apparatus etc. I would be really grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction to any websites which show good examples of this. Its strange i used to come across lots of websites with fantastic ideas but cant seem to find any now that i need them!

I'm posting 2 activities we're done as part of our Elmer themed weeks as they worked really well I had a box of summer fruits in my freezer that needed using.I think i bought them cheap when tesco had them on for £1.I put them in the black tray still frozen with a selection of plastic elephants. They were there all day and gradually defrosted and the berry juice was used to colour the elephants. They went in the water tray at the end of the session and scrubbed clean

Hi I have a little query that I hope you could help me with. I have a few children who have started back this term showing the interest to write their names. In my setting we do provide lots of activities both inside and out that supports and strengthen Gross motor skill. We also provide lots of marking opportunities such as table top painting, gloop etc etc. I feel that as they have shown this interest I should be supporting it and provide support to form the letters correctly so they do not have to re learn when they start school in Jan. However what am concerned about is being told this is not my job and should leave it to school. Obviously i will not be sitting and m…

Speling Duz It Reely Mater? 1 2

I listened to a discussion on TV the other day about a University Don suggesting that we stop having high expectations of spelling, even at graduate level, saying if the words can be understood that that is all that matters. As a University lecturer he was 'fed up' with time taken correcting spelling mistakes and felt the 'content' was more important than the presentation. Some of the panel thought this was apaling (but spelt with 2 p's and 2 l's ) Others saw his point discussing how people who struggle to spell, or people with dyslexia are disadvantaged because the education/academic expectations are focused too high on the 'need' to spell correctly. Points were made …

I have an interview for a job in an Outdoor Pre-School and was wondering if anybody had any experience of working within one? I am particularly interested in the practicalities such as toileting, handwashing, seating, equipment storage etc. Websites of interest that spring to mind include mindstretchers, muddy puddles - does anybody have any other suggestions? Has anybody been on Forest Skills training or Learning Through Landscapes? Can you recommend them? Thanks!

I just wondered if anyone has been implementing the letters and sounds pack and how you are finding it? Have you begun with phase one and worked your way through or have you gone by individual children's needs. Also have you run it alongside another programee Ie Jolly phonics?

Hello everyone! I've got a very stupid question thats been causing me no end of stress for days, and I dont want to ask my headteacher about it because I think she'll look at me as if I've just touched down from mars. The YPO catalogue, or any other resource catalogue for that matter - Do you have to order EVERYTHING in one go? I need to put my order in for Friday, but I don't know now what I'll need at Christmas, or for Spring! I just wanted to know if there is usually an ongoing ordering system, where you can 'top up' on things, or buy new things if you need them? It's a silly question I know, but I've been losing sleep over this! Also, do you hav…

Hi everyone, Just feeling very stressed about the last week and a half at school. Two weeks ago I met with my head teacher and she looked at work and at my early Years REcords and we then arranged for her to come to the Reception class and moderate my reading ( hear 4 children read) and moderate the calculating ( work with 3 children) before my end of year scores were submitted to my county. However she did not visit and the scores were delayed but were then submitted on Friday. At lunch time on Friday she asked to speak to me and gave me a list of 5 writing activities that she wants completed by 17 out of 30 children in my class in the next week. I explained that there…
