Starting A New Job Next Week
by Guest- 1 reply

Morning I am starting a new job next week, making a move from a LSA in a school SEN unit to a Senior Practitioner role in a nursery- I have a little list of questions to ask and information to source about the routines, policies, staffing and the setting when I start, to make sure everything is OK and to see what could be developed. I was just wondering if anyone had any additional ideas that they would check before hand so that they have a good idea about how to take on the role and seek new ways to move the room forward (which needs doing) thanks in advance for any help x

Hi all, just wondered if anyone has any good techniques of encouraging children to reflect on their learning or experience at school? am considering how to enable more parents to contribute observations of their children, but would also like children to have a voice in reflecting on their learning, particularly as they are coming to the end of their reception year. We already have the conversations along the lines of "before I couldn't ride a bike with out stabilisers but now I can" etc... as well as "reflecting on the morning/afternoon" but does anyone have any innovative ideas that I might be able to use please? X

One of my key children over the past week or so, has said a couple of times saying 'your're my favourite, I love you' as she sits next to me. Makes me feel warm all over! Have felt that we have been relating well to each other. I smile back at her and say 'I like you too'. Is that appropriate? What do others do?

Hi all, have been asked to do a staff meeting input on letters and sounds for the rest of the school, just wondered if anyone had found any sort of "officially produced" presentations? I found one on the EYFS on teachernet and I wondered if there was anything similar for L&S? Or if anyone has any tips on what to include I'd be very grateful! Thanks! x

Behaviour And Talking To Parents

Hi I work at a pre-school with the older children, the other day a child in my room had been continually saying no when asked to do somwething and generally disruptive and encouraging the other children to be the same. The problem is that the girls mum also works at the pre-school but in the younger room. I had a word with her after the session and she put in a complaint about me to the Leader. Was I wrong? I let the behaviour go on for ages trying praise, etc it was a last ditch attempt.

Please if anyone could help me it would be gratefully appreciated! I work in an Early Years unit within a school. We are changing from traditional morning and afternoon sessions in our Nursery to flexible hours where the children can take their 12.5hrs entitlement over 3 days in various ways. The school have decided to be VERY flexible on how these 12.5hrs can be taken and as a result I have Nursery start times being 9am, 11, 11.30, 12, 12.30 and 1pm! with children arriving at these times and going home at various times during the day. I am really unsure how I am going to plan carpet times etc and have had my idea of having an adult focussed activity running through the w…

Hi, can anyone offer any advice. We have been asked to put up a rota - type format forsand changing and how frequently we will change it. This is mainly outdoor sand which is covered. Is thereany official length of time and frequency for changing sand. Mine does get transported but as it is quite a big area some of the stuff is there for quite a few weeks. Thanks a lot!

As an authority we have had a couple of enquiries from out of school providers who look after children from age 4 and upwards, and who will be on both the Early Years register and the compulsory part of the Childcare register. From their point of view they have "gained" a new registration and they want to know if they need to deliver the EYFS. If so, they will need guidance on how much of the EYFS they are expected to deliver bearing in mind most school age children will have experienced this during their school day. Does anyone else have any knowledge of this?
