hi I was wondering if I can pick your brains. I had a parent come to me today because her daughter has started sleep walking. She mentioned it a few weeks ago when is had just started, but came to speak to me today because it is happening every night and she wanted to know if I knew anything about sleep walking. I had to admit to knowing little/nothing, so I thought I'd ask about it on here. I suggested that the doctor or health visitor may have some ideas, but that I would also do some research. The little girl is often tired at school and I assume that it is probably related, but other than keeping her safe when she is walking around the house, I don't know whether …

Parent Helpers

We have a new built nursery, attached to a school and have recently invited parents on a rota basis to come a spend one or two sessions with us, so they can get to know our new nursery. The issue of police checks has come up. Should we be getting all parents police checked, even if they are only helping for a couple of sessions? These parents would never be with children in an unsupervised situation.

Our school has just been through an Ofsted. and I am pleased to have received a '2' in our F.U after just two years. However, I do wonder on what evidence this is based as she observed us but saw no paperwork, no evidence of children's work only what was around the room, and asked me no questions whatsoever. As a school she questioned our C.V.A (contextual value added for those new to these abbreviations) We are a small school with errratic intake and some movement of children so it simply is not always possible to show this in the statistics. The maximum our year 6's can get is a Level5 and therefore it is not rocket science to work backwards to see what kind of scores …

Story Strings

Has anyone heard of "story strings"? What are they? I'm doing some reading about ways of giving children props to develop their storytelling and storybuilding skills and this term is used - I've never heard of it! It's mentioned alongside things like story sacks and using items from small world play to develop stories but doesn't give any more information. Does anyone know...does anyone use them? Are they a good resource?

Can anybody help please? I'm running a FS curriculum evening for parents in a few weeks time. I have an excercise I've used several times before to illustrate the difference between active learning and paper based learning. Most parents coming this year have been to this session before and I'd like to find a new way of making my point. Does anyone have a short (10 minute max.) exercise which I could use with the parents? Thanks!!!

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of a E.C.M. table type chart so that we can tick off our activities against the requirements. As a Children's Centre we need to be showing that we are fullfilling the outcomes. Hope you understand what I mean - well it is nearly weekend!!
