Foundation Stage Workshops For Parents
by Guest Wolfie- 10 replies

I've been put in charge of planning, organising, collecting resources for and running a series of workshops for parents of children in the foundation stage at our school - the purpose is to give parents some insight into what we do and why at the nursery and also give them some ideas for activities that they can do with their children at home to extend their learning. Has anyone had any experience of running this kind of thing? We're thinking of running one session per area of learning and splitting the morning so that some of the time parents are with their children, playing in a room that we have set out to illustrate a particular area, and for the other part we wo…

At presant we have topics in which we plan BUT how can i persuade others that we should be incorporating the childrens interests? What would be a good starting point? I can remember reading a post here that talks about the subject of not using topics and incorporating childrens interests but can not find it. Skippy

Reflective Children

This is an area I have been giving a lot of thought about recently, how best to get childrens views. My daughter was making a thankyou card for her sons teacher and decided to ask Ben, just 5 yrs old What he would like to say to his teacher about all the things he's liked about his 1st year at school. She gave him starting points such as; I like Mr Ramsden because............ My daughter drew speech bubbles all around the card with ben's comments. My favourite one was when Ben said, " I like Mr Ramsden because he ALWAYS chooses to sit next to me at assembly" ah, bless, he hasn't got a clue about the real reason he has to sit next to the teacher This cheered me …

Tracking Progress
by Guest- 4 replies

Hello to you all, I would like to know if anybody has heard of some kind of progress file that would be used for each child throughout the foundation stage -from nursery until they live reception- and which would include the stepping stones then moving on to the early learning goals. At the moment in our school our assesment system is not uniform and we end up doing the same assesment twice which result into a lot of paper work and wasted time. It would be nice to have one big file which would track the child progress instead of bits and pieces here and there.

Is it just me or does this seem wrong. I have applied for a job within the Council Early Years section. I have not been sent any letter saying I should come for an interview, but a friend who runs her own day nursery and who I have put down as a reference came and saw me and said that another woman who runs another day nursery who is very friendly with every one in the Borough has been asked to go on the interview panel. She wanted to know if this friend of mine knew that I had applied for a job as she had been told thats who she would be interviewing. I cannot believe that not only has someone in the Borough told the lady who was asked to do the interview who they we…

Just wondered how you all informed parents that children can attend your setting if they're not toilet trained, verbally or in writing? Parents in our setting still think children have to be toilet trained before they can come at 2 years 9 months. I usually bring it into the conversation. Would be very interested to see how you word it if you put it in writing. Many thanks. Deb

Really Nervous

Hi All. As most of you know, I have a job interview to attend on Thursday morning and even though I have been working in EY for years, I have suddenly come across all jittery and nervous and I'm worried about getting this job. I know I'm being silly, but I really can't help it. Usually I'm really confident when I go for interviews, full of ideas and enthusiasm and I don't really know what is happening this time to make me feel so panicky. Even though there is a lot I do know, I'm worried about the things I don't. I want to make a good impression. It doesn't help that having been qualified for almost a year, I still don't have any certificates to prove it. I k…
