R.e In The Foundation Stage

Hi, I'm an experienced Early years teacher working in a special school in a specialist class for children who have autism. We have been asked by the co ordinator (RE not Foundation) to plan and teach R.E as a discreet subject from this term. We place huge emphasis on Personal Social and Emotional Development, developing eye contact, social skills, turn taking etc. Does anyone have any experience of being asked to do this as one reason given is that other schools are doing this. I would welcome any comments or suggestions including info on requirement. Thanks, Gill, Bolton

I teach part time, I take the reception children from a mixed R/ Y1 class three mornings and one afternoon a week. The problem is I have set up planning based on different areas , constrcution, writing corner, sensory etc, as advised on my early years course. The other teacher has trained with older children and has set up a weekly timetable with literacy and numeracy in the mornings and other subjects in the afernoons. The head teacher has told me she wants the R children to be playing, " not too much formal lit and num as they get that with the other teacher!" I thought things would go okay, but now the other teacher has started saying that e.g. I need the children to d…

Well - what do you think? It's dead easy and anonymous to vote, so please do so. But if you'd like to air your view, reply to the topic as well. This is the FSFs first poll, so say something - you're making history!

Are the Foundation Stage Profiles going to be used as end of year reports, and therefore go home to parents, or are reception teachers writing reports in addition to completing the profiles?

storymaking

How do you encourage the children in your setting to make up their own stories? Do you tell the children stories from memory, perhaps using props or puppets? Share your ideas here! The cluster group meetings in East Sussex should give us loads of new material!

I'd really like to do some extensive work with a puppet in my classroom, particularly as many of the children are EAL and find this sort of approach less threatening but I don't know how to start----other than get a puppet! I do have a puppet that I use for circle time activities, telling "news" but don't feel comfortable developing this. I'd like to buy a really special "friend" but don't want to spend the money if its only going to sit on the shelf. Have you seen the spectacular puppets on "puppetsbypost"? I've been inspired by Ros Bayley, who I've heard speak a few times. Can any one help?

Adult Cover For Outdoor Play

I'm starting as a Nursery teacher in a new school next week. At the moment they don't have continuous outdoor provision but want to move that way. We have two FT teachers and two NNs. We obviously want to share the load but are finding it difficult to plan without staff being outdoors for hours on end! We thought of maybe doing it in half-hour sessions. How do you plan your outdoor provision? Do you have continuous provision for long periods of time or time slots of say 45 min - 1hr when the chn can choose to work outdoors? I would love to hear from others about how you do it.
