Hi there. I am currently studying my level 3 in childcare and I am wanting to discuss the importance of reflection for CPD. I believe it is extremely important in order to maintain high standards of teaching and care with the children you are working with. Any other comments, please feel free to share

Hi I am sure many of you found this latest news story shocking https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-66669239 I cannot imagine being part of the senior management team who are suddenly having to make alternative plans for pupils just days before the start of term Are you working in a school that is having to close or shut some classrooms? How are you coping?

Over the summer we revisited a couple of previous podcast episodes from our back catalogue: How can we support young children through transitions and change - with Sonia Mainstone-Cotton STEM in the early years - with Natalie Bent and Denhue Harris We hope you enjoy them, and don't forget you can share any reflections in this thread.

A chance to look back at a coffee break article first published last year about the role of childminders. I had the privilege of attending a meeting of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Childcare and Early Education at Westminster on Wednesday 29th June 2022. The theme of the meeting was 'a levelling up opportunity' and we were lucky enough to hear from an amazing line-up of speakers. Helen Hayes MP, Dr Julian Grenier, Dr Nathan Archer and Rebecca Swindells all made excellent contributions, which helped paint a fuller picture of the challenges faced by the sector. I had a personal interest in the final speaker though, as I am fascinated by the impact child…

Just wanted to let people know about this excellent publication (Edited by Julian Grenier and Caroline Vollans) and how much we, the FSF/Tapestry education team, are enjoying it. We meet every week to discuss all things early years and primary and at every other meeting we choose a chapter to read and discuss. It's been such a great experience- keeping us all up to date with the latest thinking and helping us to express our own views to each other. If I were still running a setting, I'd be using this in staff meetings. Thoroughly recommend it. I think some of my colleagues are going to come in and say something about the chapters they chose, but the one I was particularly…

How connection before correction might work for you: Calm your own expectations or fears (remember your child is imperfect just like you). Enter into your child's world, think about the experience from their point of view. Listen to what your child might have to say. Focus on solutions and creating opportunities for children to learn how to make amends. Below I go into depth with solution-based heartfelt approaches, this is also a great opportunity for us to reflect and learn. It’s also great to let children know, that you yourself are still learning life: let them see you make mistakes, cry embrace and learn, we need to become advocates of our own teachings…

Hello, just wanted to get some idea of whether your Early Years Settings/Pre Schools write reports for the children going off to school. Do you write them and give a copy to both the parents and school? Or just the school? Or neither. Interested to know Thank you in advance x

I’m looking for some ideas around supporting my class with learning to lose or even just not get their way with something. They have always struggled with this but at the moment it’s huge. I’m sure some of it is sensing that things are changing but I seem to have someone ‘stropping’ or in tears constantly. It’s really only half a dozen key children but the effect they are having on the others is huge. As it all started again this afternoon I overheard one of the others say “Oh not this again!” I’m planning to do some very focused PSHE but would love some extra ideas!

Jules and Anya talked with specialist educational psychologist Jemma Carter about what trauma informed practice can look like in settings and schools. Jemma explained the importance of having a place to start, how trauma informed adaptations to learning environments will benefit all children, and the opportunities we have as educators to enable change for children. You can listen here. Let us know if you are having conversations about becoming trauma informed in your settings.
