Is anyone using emerging developing and secure to show progress across the developmental bands. I was under the impression that we only used similar statements ie expected, emerging at the end of Reception against the ELG. I am feeling very confused!?!!! Many thanks

Hi there, We have just been told that we still have to produce a written end of year report for parents of our F2 class. We usually include a section about maths and lit progress and their next steps but feel this could be hard as we haven't worked with them since March. Could anyone tell me what their schools plan to include? We were thinking maybe of just reporting on the children's Characteristics of Effective Learning and a general comments section. Thanks for any help/advice.

Hi everyone. I'm just looking for some advice on an upcoming interview for a Reception Teacher role. I've got to teach a Maths session with a number focus to a mixed group of 30 children. I've been assigned about 30 minutes for the session so not sure if it should be a whole class session for the entire time or plan some small group activities related to the session. I've been teaching abroad for a number of years so I'm not sure what the current expectation is for interview lessons. I'm concerned about the whole class sitting for such a long time as I wouldn't normally have a carpet session that long. Not sure if there is enough time to develop it further with a sm…

Hi everyone My teaching partner and I were wondering if anyone has a way of recording how well children show the characteristics of effective learning as a baseline? As part of our school improvement plan we are developing children's resilience and their use of the characteristics however as part of our appraisals we need to use quantitative evidence to show these are improving. Has anyone got any ideas on how we can do this? What sortof baseline could we use? Many thanks!

Hi there! I hope everyone is enjoying the lovely weather...make the most of it. For the last few years we have used the 'What to expect when' sheets for the parent assessment for Nursery and Reception but feel they are quite long winded for parents to fill in. Does anyone have a sheet or know of one that is a bit more concise for parents to complete at the beginning of the year. Thank you!

Hi all. I have an interview for a teaching position and Deputy Nursery Manager and have been asked to prepare a Literacy Teaching Session followed by a small group activity lasting 30 minutes in total. The issue is that it is with a group of mixed Nursery and Reception children so trying to think of an interesting activity that will be relevant to all levels. I know that both groups have been looking at Minibeasts and Growth so want to link it to that. Initial thoughts was to read The Very Hungry Caterpillar then small group to choose a food it ate and either write a sentence or write the initial sound of the food. Any ideas would be gratefully received! …

Hi all, a little help please! I’m needing to report on the entry assessments that were made in reception classes for the school SEF. Just wondering how people are deciding now if the children are at, above or below expected entry level when they start school as no official test (thankfully!) I know we used to use the Ofsted guideline that expected was secure at 30-50 and starting or higher at 40-60 to be at expected on entry level. I can’t find recent info and just wondered if this is still the guidelines. Always a bit woolly but we need a starting point! I know the children have made good progress but need some evidence! Thanks all

Has anyone used “Tales Tool Kit” to promote storytelling through play? If so, what do you think about it? I am thinking 🤔 💭 about using it with my Reception Class, but your feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!🙏🏼 http://talestoolkit.com/
