Hi Everyone, I'm hoping some of you wonderful people can help. I have just received news I have been shortlisted for a reception teacher post. I need to plan and deliver a math lesson for 15 children working 40-60mths band on the follow: Can I use quantities and objects to subtract 2 single digit numbers and count back to find the answer? Can I record using marks I can interpret and explain? The topic in reception is Spring/farm. No TA will be available. That's all the information I have been given. My mind is blank, i really would like to do well. I have not had a job interview for years so a little nervous. Also says i will have another task but that will be giv…

My head teacher has asked me to calculate the points progress for each child in EYFS like they do with the KS1 and KS2 curriculum. I wondered if anyone else has been asked to do this and what they classed as 1 points progress? I am unsure how to adapt it to fit with the EYFS curriculum. Any help or advise welcome!!

Hi, I am wondering how different settings have to 'justify' their EYFSP judgements in regard to reading and writing. Do most settings use the Govt Exemplars and then trust teacher judgement or, do settings also take into consideration the reading level the child is at (ie what level of reader they are on) and which Phase within Letters and Sounds they are working within? If so, what is the recommended 'minimum' Letters and Sounds Phase a child 'should' be at by the end of Reception? And what reading level 'should' they be on by the end of Reception if they are to be Expected or Exceeding on the EYFSP? Thanks in advance!

Hi all, first post here. Sorry if this is a repeat question, I have searched the forums and am still a little confused. I am getting in my own head about this and confusing myself more! I am an NQT working in a split Reception and Year 1 class. Having recently been to the EYFS conference and coming away thinking that I had it all under control and knew what I was doing. I have gone back to my data for this term and am suddenly met with a sinking feeling that I have been too harsh on my assessments and have not properly understood the terminology! This is the first year my school has been using Tapestry and it uses the terminology of 'ELG Emerging, developing a…

Hi everyone, Firstly, thanks for taking the time to read my post! Secondly, I am after some help! I have been out of the EY's for a couple of years but now I'm back and things seem to have changed! The setting where I work seems stuck in a time warp regarding planning and resources. We take it in turns to plan activities, bot related to what the children's interests are, but what is on our medium term planning ( this is a book, colour and shape a week). We carry out activities around the colour, shape and book and call children over to carry out these activities in their learning journey books. We have very old and worn out resources, which make planning e…

Hello I wonder if anyone is able to help me. We are looking to adopt a new school maths scheme. At the moment our current scheme is poor for Reception. Please could anyone suggest a scheme with a strong Reception section. What schemes do people use currently? Thank you so much.

Hi everyone! Our school will be doing a Roald Dahl special day in February and I would greatly appreciate which of his short stories would you recommend for a class with 2 to 3 / 4 year olds and another with 4 to 5 year olds. I would prefer the least scary ones. Thanks in advance!?
