Dear all I am studying for a Doctorate of Education at the University of Sheffield and am currently working on my thesis focusing on issues of school readiness. My main focus is to explore teacher beliefs about school readiness, and how these beliefs impact on practice and pedagogy in the Reception classroom. If you could take five to ten minutes of your time to complete this survey I would be very interested in your thoughts on school readiness. The link is http://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/OT74Z/ The project has been ethically approved via the School of Education department’s ethics review procedure at the University of Sheffield. Many thanks. I just need to run something passed other EYFS trained people to help my sanity. I feel (as I'm sure many of us do) that I'm regularly in a battle to fight a "diluted year 1" curriculum rather than EYFS, and treated like I don't know what I'm talking about despite being in EYFS for years, but something happened recently that really bothered me. To cut the issue short, I was given a list of criteria for writing that children 'have to achieve to get the writing ELG'. Yet these are not in the ELG as far as my understanding goes. I know its only January but transition is on my mind because as a school we are moving to the model of the children moving up to their new year group for the last 2 wks of the year. In reception we normally do a parent and child lunch and then the children stay for the afternoon, then one full day in school. The majority of the new starters attend our nursery so are familiar with school. Any new ideas would be grateful.

Hi I was wondering if any of your schools currently use a language programme to teach your children an addidional langugue (primary school- all classes). Mine is thinking of starting to teach Spanish but as non of the staff really have any experience in this we are looking into suitable programmes. I think one we quite liked was Speekee but thought it would be good to get some feedback from anyone else using this or other programmes.
