Ok year 2 of fda here I come!!! First assignment as mentioned above is about the history of childhood, we can go back as far as we wish but must finish on the modern day. Now I have been reading and researching and the problem I have is that there isn't much info on Pre-School age group! When I look into the war and evacuation and other areas the info is mainly aimed at school age!! Can anyone recommend any good reading to get me going!! I have a 3000 word assignment to write!! Kris

I start the Foundation Degree tonight (eeekk...) and wondered if anyone knows whether any of my NVQ level 4 would count towards any of it at all? I notice on the course details that the foundation degree comprises of level 4 and 5.

This morning I received my credit transfer award from the Open University towards a degree I started years ago elsewhere. It was unrelated to EY. I had thought that if I didn't achieve two full years' credit I would give it all up. They gave me NEARLY two years credit so now I'm in a pickle. TODAY is the last day to apply for study at last year's price so there's pressure. I had thought I would complete an Open Degree studying mainly Environmental Studies subjects (my past life). Wondering.... Can I manage level 3 Early Years topics after only finishing E100? I suspect not, but the thought is worrying away at the back of my mind. Can anyone suggest a cours…

What a rollercoaster!! Having really struggled with this final course, failing assignments, results due by 3rd August - then delayed - they have finally arrived today! Although we were also promised an e:mail to say the results would be available soon - and that hasn't come yet!! I am really really chuffed to be able to say that I have passed my Foundation Degree, and got 95% for my EMA (don't know how that happened considering I was recovering from Mengingitis while trying to write it!) After 4 years, now have to decide what next! Good luck to other Open Universtity 'peeps' it was not an easy one!

I am currently level 3 and a room leader, hoping to progress to degree/EYP level. I cannot decide whether to do a full BA in Early Years/Childhood studies or Foundation degree? I will probably choose to study with OU. Can anyone help me with the differences between if I do Foundation degree or BA please? Which will be the higher level of qualification, how does the Foundation degree top up work, which path would take the longest etc? Any advice will be greatly received.

Well I am moving on in my presentation. A huge thanks to Sunnyday and Cait. They have really helped guide my thoughts. I want to explore The Child's Voice and Learning stories. I have used the Child's Voice a couple of times but want to go further with it. Does anyone use either of these ways of Observing and Assessing. Thank you all in advance for your help and thoughts.

Hi I have a presentation to prepare for my staff. The topic I have chosen is te Whariki. I am really interested in finding out if other settings have any experience of Te Whariki. My son is off to be a singer with P and O pacific soon and I am hoping to go and visit New Zealand when I go and see him but am doing the presentation in about a week.

Any ideas for an activity for encouraging child participation. I have been observing in the setting and circle time all the children enjoy taking part, gardening this week the boys enjoyed planting and the girls watering the plants. But I need to be able to evaluate an activity that encourages child participation so not sure how either of these would meet the criteria. Any suggestions anyone? Kris
