I'm after some advice - I am considering going into teaching but not sure which route to take, if any! I am a qualified NN but don't have a degree, I have spent the last three years working in a primary school in the Foundation class as both a general and a SEN TA, my head would fully support any further training I wanted to do, but I don't know which route to take: A degree first then PGCE Foundation degree then top up etc Open Uni or local uni Or another combination I can't afford to be a full time student so it would probably have to be distance learning How are the OUs open degrees considered in terms of teaching? Any advice would be gratefully received J…

I had a disagreement today with the tutor who was showing us powerpoint. I didnt think it helped me to learn, as all the information on the screen was also on the handouts. The screen was a bit jazzier but that was all. I didnt like it. I could see that maybe you could show animations, films etc that may help in a delivery of something, but overall I didnt rate it as a learning tool. I'd love to hear your ideas on its use. Do you like it's use? Does it aid your learning or is a tool for the tutor? Any really good or bad experiences of courses where it was used? Thanks folks

I'm after some good ideas and inspiration please... I've 'agreed' to deliver a three hour workshop on becoming a reflective practitioner (the music stopped and I was the one without a chair!) Are there any tutors out there who have found effective ways of presenting this subject or anyone who's been on a similar training course recently who can remember some good activities? Any ideas gratefully received.

Hi all, I'm about to start tutor training. The first assignment asks us to think about good and bad experiences in training. I can think of both, but would like to hear other peoples experineces to. My bad one relates to 'Believing in your subject'. At an Equal ops course we were asked to think about the books we provide. Are they reflective of our multi-cultural society? Do they show positive images of all people? Do the images dispel steryotypes? The lady leading said... 'To check this, ask a member of staff to review the library books. You might have only one male member of staff, lets call him Tom. Tom wont want to sit in the staff room listening to women talki…

Lovely Marion asked me how it was going so I thought I would share my response. Haven't been on the forum much for a while because we've had a computer nightmare! Hubby's computer died ( this is what I use for internet access) So we put internet on my laptop ( work computer) Then hubby bought a new super duper computer which has Windows Vista Time taken to set up browsers etc The degree work has been affected by the above changes, especially as the first module is all about Information Communication Technology  I must admit I have felt like a headless chicken just trying to get used to the ultraversity site. It's a bit like first time on the …
