I am a childminder at present but have level 7 qualifications. I have been invited (via the Transformation Fund programme) to attend the fast track validation course for the Early Years Professional Status. My training starts this Saturday and I just wondered if anyone has already attended their first training days and what the course content is as I have no other information. Lisa

British Sign Language

Hello. I have been having a browse on the net (yet another sleepless night!) and have come across a course that I'm quite interested in. It is the Level 1 Certificate in British Sign Language. I was wondering had anyone taken part in a course like this before and also if it would be suitable to use within the early years? What are your thoughts on this course? Would it be ok for me, having never studied sign language before (discounting a brief spell in the Girl Guides about 14 years ago!) or would I be better off learning something else, sign language related? Any thoughts would be great! Thanks!

We have a new employee in our nursery who has registered with the local college for a NVQ3. Our nursery supervisor was awarded the assessor's qualification a couple of years ago (by the same college) whilst assessing two of our staff members at that time. With me so far? Our supervisor was told yesterday by the college that they weren't expecting to pay her for assessing our new employee because this was "in-house" training and therefore up to us (me!) to cover the costs. I'm lost for words....The college has received payment from our trainee and is therefore entitled to an assessor paid for by them, surely? I think having our supervisor as an assessor is an advantage f…

Hi there I am currently working in day Nursery after many varied posts over the years. NNEB trained, I am about to start a NVQ assessor course. The course is run by a CACHE trainer, but my colleagues are doing YMCA training. I'm told paperwork will be different, and I shall have to comply with YMCA (makes sense for the girls anyway). Does anyone have experience of this? Any help/advice appreciated Jean

by Guest- 2 replies

I did my NNEB in 1975 . I have kept up to date with day courses etc. and never been out of work till now. (Husband relocated) I have recently been preschool leader and before, Nursery manager. The question now is.... Where do I go next? Bearing in mind we have just moved to Darkest Norfolk, what is going to be the best way to update my NNEB? Do I go for HNC , Foundation Degree of straight to degree in childhood studies? Or just head for Acreditation for prior learning ? Does anyone Know where I can go to get help? HELP!!

Where Do I Go From Here?

Hello everyone, I am in a difficult situation. I am enrolled on the Early Years Foundation Degree with the Open University. My setting is not backing this (two of our nine staff have NVQ level 4, and that is enough, so they say; the rest of us are unqualified). I am nearing the end of my first course (hopefully I will pass it). My next course starts in February. These two courses could give me a QCA level 4 qualification. I have chosen not to accept this because my setting does not require this of me. Indeed they do not want any of this training!!!! Why am I doing this? Beacuse it will benefit me and the children I worl with. That is why. What should I…

Why wont my committee listen to me!!!!!!!! Im the leading practitioner at my pre-school playgroup with a parent run committee. Ive been working at the group for 8 years done my level 3 training and now on the foundation degree and they still think they know whats best. How do you get them to listen and take on board what you say. I cant spend any money on toys for the children, the children have to do a sponsered event each year to fund raise for their own equipment. They even disagree with me on the daycare standards which i know inside out, but they are kind enough to let me do some of the paperwork they should be doing!!!! How do i get round them, i try to…
