This was just what I needed. Last term I left the staff to do the planning as I wont be there much longer. There was no Maths included as focused activities. This article is exactly what I need to show them how it can be included without having to go to great lengths. Thank you Ellie. Slow coach Steve

Hi all - Just to get in before Rea for a change, I thought I'd let you know I've published another (briefer) article from Dee Hayday. You can find it here She discusses children's injuries and accidents in her usual delicate manner!

I'm in the middle of writing up next terms planning and then I found Dee's article. Brilliant, it made me look at my plans and announce they are great or rotten depending on who see's them. I like them, they'll work and thats all that counts. Keep 'em coming Dee my sanity only needs bolstering for another 7 months and then I can have a break (down?)

So true, one of our staff, and there's only 4 of us, has missed the last 3 meeting, the last of which was hijacked by the chair who 'popped in' for a quick chat which lasted 45 minutes. Now I know I'm not alone in feeling frustrated, thanks Dee

Dear All Just had a chance to sit and read Nicola Call's article on 'Emotional Competence' [edit from Steve: The article can be found here]. I found the article to be really thought provoking. It makes perfect sense that the more emotionally competent or if I have understood the article, emotionally well rounded that our little people are the better they will learn and interact with the people around them. I thought this was a great to highlight this area of child development as sometimes we are so pressured to do other things (such as FSP's, The National Numeracy Strategy etc) that maybe this area of learning could be considered less important. One might thi…

Hi all - I'm very happy to let you know that we've started a new series of articles by Dee Hayday, a regular contributor to Early Years journals and magazines and an experienced Foundation Stage practitioner. These are articles with a difference!. Written with an eye to the absurd side of life, and with an irreverent lighthearted tone, they are designed to be read after a stressful day. Whether teaching in reception or in nursery, pre-school or other setting, we hope you'll feel better after reading them! It's not just you and you're not alone! They come with this health warning though: If you feel early years education is so serious we shouldn't poke fun …

OK, I've been silent for long enough! Does anyone have any comment on the 'Storytelling - A Dying Art ' article? Has anyone found it useful or even interesting? I don't want accolades, just an idea if I'm on the right lines or barking mad!! Besides, this is the right time of year to bury rubbish Sue

Teacher Talking Profile

Help urgently required! I have completed parts of the teacher talking profile in the recent past but have been asked to obtain the blank form (in order to complete from September onwards) at my new school . I am unsure as to were these can be obtained from and how much they cost (I preume there' s a cost because they come with a handbook). The handbook is called 'Teaching Procedures Hanbook' and a search on the web has drawn a blank (obviously not typing in the magic words). Have also tried the speech and language website for my area which just states 'please complete teacher talking profile' so not much help there. Please, please help if any one has any info on how …

Hi all! Hope I've put this in the right forum! Expect Steve will put me right, so no worries! I hope some of you have read this great article!! If you haven't yet read it, I urge you to do so. Circle Time can be a real drag, and I've been doing my bit to liven it up, but it never occurred to me to take Sue's approach and really unpick it. The results are amazing, and I have already begun to put her ideas into practice in my own setting, where they're going down really well! Sue - Gold Star to you!!! By the way - why are there only rarely discussions of the great articles on this site ? Let's start reading and discussing! After all, school hols are …
