A student engaged in her Master's research around quality assurance would really appreciate some answers to these questions: INDICATIVE INTERVIEW QUESTIONS For Personal Information: exploring work experience and current responsibilities 1) Gender, position, type of contract 2) How many years have you been working in education sector? 3) How do you manage the quality of teaching as a school head teacher / inspector? For the research focus: 1) What do you understand by quality assurance? What quality assurance mechanisms are used in case of your school? Who is involved? How is it organised? Could you tell me about your experience? 2) What is the main purpose of using quali…

Hi all I came across an article in this month's edition of 'EYE' and wondered if anyone has used the book 'Assessing Quality Early Childhood Education and Care - Sustained Shared Thinking and Emotional Well-being.' ? It is very similar to the Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale booklet. I am interested as it is to do with sustained shared thinking which I am looking into at the moment. Just wondered if anyone had used the book and if so what did you think? Here it is on Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Assessing-Quality-Early-Childhood-Education/dp/1858566584

Hello All, Having just completed my Foundation Degree, I have now lost access to the online university library and therefore any openathens logins. Hence, I can no longer access the places I normally look to in order to keep updated with current Early Years research, such as the EYE online magazine. In light of that, how do you all keep up to date with current Early Years research? Are there any really good websites, facebook pages or forums etc. that regularly post new research articles/studies? Thank you!

I have had a quick flick through this but the upshot is that it seems to evidence the benefits of children attending pre-school and how it enhances their life chances, earning potential and from a government perspective their contribution to the countries coffers!! I wonder if anyone will sit up, take notice and actually give us credit and a bit better financial recompense for what we do. https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/351496/RR354_-_Students__educational_and_developmental_outcomes_at_age_16.pdf

ECU bulletin

When I worked at the preschool I had subscribed to a bulletin from the early childhood Unit at the NCB. Since cancelling all our email subscriptions I realise I miss this (emailed) publication a lot as it contained links to so many items and pulled together so many different news items. I can't find anywhere on the NCB website to subscribe to it - can anyone point in me the right direction please? I know it wasn't part of an NCB membership because we definitely didn't pay to be a member.

A new short report from the Literacy Trust highlighted today shows that from a research group of 35,000 children, 1 in 4 children don't chat at mealtimes and almost a third spend more time online or playing computer games than talking to parents and other family members and this appears to have a direct impact on future confidence when speaking in front of a group. Interesting figures and certainly food for thought Mealtimes_2013.pdf
