The most important thing to begin with if you have entered the wrong email address for someone, is to deactivate that user account. You can do that from the Manage Relative/Staff page (whichever is appropriate for the user) within the Control Panel. Find their name and then use the cog along the line from their name to deactivate or delete them. It doesn't matter which you do - in either case they won't be able to login anymore. If you just deactivate them then they will stay on your account indefinitely, but in a different section. If you're sure this is the wrong address, deleting them would be better because it means they're less likely …

You can use the hashtag feature on Tapestry to tag posts (observations, memos, activities and reflections) with words/expressions of your choice. Doing so will allow you to find posts that you want to mark in a certain way quickly and easily. All you need to do is put a hashtag then whatever term you want to use in the notes or additional information section of a post, for example you might want to use #CI for Child Initiated or #painting if you know you're going to want to refer back to all the posts that show that later on. A tag can appear anywhere in the text box though, so you could put it at the start, midway through a sentence, or at the end. It doesn’t m…

This tutorial explains the 'parental controls' options on current iOS devices that allow you to set what level of access your staff have to the device outside of using the Tapestry App. For the sake of simplicity and consistency with Apple we will refer to them from now on as 'restrictions' as we appreciate most settings don't have a parent-child relationship with their staff. An important thing to note is, when you set restrictions on your iOS device it will affect all users who use that particular device, and there is not a simple way to give different users different levels of access without temporarily disabling restrictions. It is possibly something an IT suppor…

Whilst you can export children's learning journals as a whole (this tutorial talks you through how to do this) we know in some cases, such as for moderation, it is helpful to be able to create a PDF of specific observations or a selection of them for different children. In this tutorial I will show you how to bulk export observations from both the Observations and Assessments pages, and how to download the observations once you have exported them. We'll start by looking at how to export observations. To skip to the section on downloading them after they have been exported, click here. Exporting Observations Firstly, I will show you how to do this from the…

You may have children in your setting who have been accidentally added to your Tapestry account twice, or you may have transferred a Tapestry journal from a child's old setting after creating one for them yourself, leading to two profiles existing on your account. In these cases you can use the Merge Children feature to combine these two children into one, which is much quicker than trying to manually transfer observations between children, and also allows you to keep reports. This tutorial explains how to merge 2 records, but if you have 3 or more duplicates, simply repeat the process again after merging 2 of the records. While the process does only take a f…

This tutorial will talk you through the Leuven Analysis Screens that are available to you on Tapestry. In order to view these screens, the Leuven scales will need to be enabled via your Control Panel by following this tutorial. Note: The Leuven system of measuring well-being and engagement was written in 1994 as a tool for staff to use to evaluate their early years environment. The premise was that by observing and measuring how children were engaging in the environment teachers could see if they needed to modify to improve their teaching spaces to improve the outcomes for children. You can use Leuven on Tapestry to evaluate your provision by reviewing childre…

The app version of Tapestry was designed to be a pared-down version of Tapestry, to make uploading observations as quick and easy as possible. Therefore, it doesn’t have all the same functionality as the browser version. You can still access the browser version on a non-computer device, like a phone or tablet, you just need to use a web browser (such as Chrome, Edge, Safari etc.) to do this. The functions that aren’t available on the app are: The Control Panel – this is where managers can control everything on the account The Tracking tab – where you can access all the different tracking screens The Children tab – it is from here that you find chi…

In this tutorial we're going to look at how to access and use the Relative Activity Screen. Please note by default only managers will be able to see this screen, if you want staff to be able to access it you will just need to change the user permission for this to 'permitted'. This tutorial talks you through the user permissions on Tapestry. Accessing the Relative Activity Screen To access the Relative Activity Screen you can do the following: (1) Click on the 'Tracking' tab. (2) Click on the 'General' tab. (3) From here select 'Relative Activity', either 'Individual View' or 'Group View'. We'll look at the i…
