Fonts For Handwriting

I have tried quite hard on the internet to download free (or actually buy) a font suitable for printing out for children to learn to write. I usually use comic sans for labelling drawers / pegs with the children's names, but it is frustrating that the t doesn't have a curl. I would also like to be able to print out the letters in dotted lines so that children can trace over their names. I am pretty sure this is available out there somewhere, but maybe only if you are American. Any ideas??

Iam a nursery nurse studying for a degree in Early Childhood Studies. I am about to begin my research year and am going to do an investigation into the foundation stage and how the children use the book areas. Has anyone done anything similar as I don't know where to start. Help!!!!!!!! The questions I am thinking of asking are Is your book area comfortable and used appropriately by the children? Do you have topics in the book area or are all the books just left out all the time? Is the book area carried on throughout the school or mainly based in the foundation stage? I would be grateful for any information at all.

Hi everyone I am doing some planning for this terms circle time and one of the book recommendations I have come across is 'But Martin!' by June Counsel. It is supposed to raise issues about the similarities and differences between children, but it is a new one to me. I wondered if any of you lovely people out there have read it or used it in your settings and if so what did you think? I want to use it as part of a seires of activities to promote a positive sense of self so that I can then go on to encourage the children to empathise with others. Any feedback would be great as with so many books out there and only a certain amount of budget. I would like t…

Hi everyone! We have recently had an outdoor area built for us (a grant from the Welsh assembly). It is mainly grass with two concrete areas and a concrete path. I want to paint the concrete with things like road markings, numbers, shapes etc. What would be the best paint to use? Has anyone else had experience of this? Looking forward to your replies, Kaybee

Traditionally at our setting we have refused to use loo roll centres and egg boxes for modelling. It was started by an ex playleader who was really paranoid about safety, loo rolls contain germs, egg boxes meay have traces of salmonella. I've kind of carried it on, without really knowing if she was right. Any advice?

Beam Fs Maths
by Guest- 5 replies

I have just been reading about this product - 'Starting out, FS Maths' by Beam, in the resources section of the site, and wondered if anyone is using it and can say how useful it is? I teach in a reception class but would be interested to hear from anyone who uses it in their setting. We have the Folens Maths scheme at our school which I don't really think is that great for Reception; it especially annoys me that it supposes you'll be doing the full Numeracy 45 minutes from day 1, every day!!! (I guess it was produced before the FS came in?) So I am looking to find a resource with good ideas that I will really be able to use a lot, (although I do promise I hav…

Hi, I've just been able to send a report home to one of our families written in both English and their home language of Greek. I found a web page which translated the report into Greek for me. It took about 30 seconds for the translation to come through, and today the nan told me how delighted they were, (Phew, it could of said anything!)The site is called INTER TRAN, and it was free to use.

Has anyone got a poem that we could use to put on our notice board which informs parents that children learn a lot through their play even if they do not bring anything home that they have made. I used to have one years ago but I can't find a copy of it now. Can anyone help????? Sue H
