We are a pack away setting and have recently gained some room dividers to make clear the different areas of learning within our setting. I was quite keen to get them but now they've arrived feel a bit scared to use them! They are mainly solid wooden ones with a couple of perspex ones. I want them to promote areas and not have them act as barriers stopping people from going into a space; so the space feels special not like I'm cornering it off! Also, I've thought about attaching things to them to make them look more inspiring eg children's photos, letting the children pin their work up on them but am now wondering about art posters or something as a starting point. C…

I would like to buy some planks of wood for children to use in den making, imaginative play eyc, with crates, ropes, guttering etc. I just wondered where people had got these from? I was going to look at b & q or omewhere diy-y like that, but I thought they might be a bit prone to splinters and it would take forever to sand them down. I don't know much about diy or wood-buying, so I don't know if you can get smooth wood? Or smooth-enough wood? What have other people done?

Outdoor Resources

hi We have 4 insets days next week and one of them will be used to make an inventory of our resources, write up our continous provision and write a shopping list for what else we need, in particular outside. We opened in January and so far have a moveable climbing frame, bikes, hoops, small balls, cones. We take stuff outside everyday but would also like to have some stuff just for outside. Would love a durable home corner for example. Good practical storage as well. Any recommendations of what you can't live without? We have quite a small outdoor space but quite big for London! p.s. We had our first ever Ofsted inspection and got overall good …

Help As La Rapidly Withdraws!
by Guest- 10 replies

Am hoping some of you can give some advise on this one as am feeling a tad out of my depth! Right, the situation in our LA, as in many others, is that the support and resources that we have had under the Labour Government is rapidly being withdrawn under the Coalition. Without going into the ins and outs of what is quite a unique set of circumstances I would like to know if anybody has any experience/idea of what we, as providers, can put in place to fill the gap that will be left. So far the area seems quite divided, largely into childcare operating from a business perspective/those that think they wont be affected and those of us who operate as charities an…

Hi, can you help me? I had some frogspawn from a friends pond and we've got it in the classroom. They have now turned into very active (and a lot of) tadpoles. Ive got some questions.... 1) should it be outside? 2) what should i give them? do they need weed? 3) how many should i keep at school if we are wanting them to turn into frogs when the fish bowl is not huge? 4) what should i do with them over this long holiday? 5) are we going to miss a lot of development over this holiday? Any other advice gratefully recieved! Lucie x
