We often receive books for review at the FSF HQ and I wondered if anyone has a burning desire to read and review any? You are of course able to keep anything you review. The first up for grabs is: "Emotional Literacy in the Early Years", by Christine Bruce. You can find it here From past experience, we should probably agree that the review should be available one month after receipt, so I can keep track of who has what! Other titles I have at the moment are: 1) What does it mean to be 3/ 4/ 5? (3 separate books) , by Jennie Lindon 2) Understanding Child Development, by Jennie Lindon 3) 3 booklets: Making up stories with children, Managing Difficu…

Hiya, just wondering if people could post any ideas for making the reading area cosy. In my classroom i hung a piece of material from the celling to make a sort of tent. This defined the area and children loved to sit underneath. However the fire inspector came around and i had to take it down as it hung over the radiator and it might catch fire! I don't really move the area as i have it on the edge of the carpet . This wondering if anyone has any suggestions as now it doesn't look very inviting! Thanks Emma

As the evenings draw in I am beginning to think more about Chritmas. I have usually found some bargains to give thhe children at Christmas. I was wondering if people were willing to share their ideas about what they give their nursery children and any good sites as I don't seem to be able to find anything I like that is affordable Thanks in anticipation.

Hi I am in need of some help and would be very grateful if anyone could contribute to this thread. I am writing an essay on How children learn for my teacher training. I need to link theory with practice and I was wondering if anyone could possibly tell me what strategies they use with children to support children's learning. I have so far been able to link effective questioning with Vygotsky (Zone of Proximal Development) and 'talking partners' with Vygotsky (language development). Is there anything else that you do when supporting children's learning that contributes to children's development? A list of strategies used would be very useful which I can t…

Hi, our setting is looking to move form a v hall into a brand new purpose built place adjoined to a new school build in our local area...having done a dissertation on our learning environment and considering we are in a hall with prospect of moving, I would like to do some professional reading and have shortlisted several books in my shopping basket but would appreciate some personal recommendations from ey practitioners before I spend a small fortune the books are either on outdoors or ey learning environments generally: Learning Outdoors: Improving the Quality of Young Children's Play Outdoors - Helen Bilton A Place to Learn: Developing a Stimulating Learning …

Apparently MES are having a clearance sale - a mixture of stuff on special offer but also things they've decided not to keep on their range. Just got a bit nostalgic about a melodion which was the second instrument I learned to play. The first was the dreaded recorder, but the least said about that the better... They also have books and CDs too. You can find them here. Maz

I am hoping someone can help me. Last week I was reading a topic where someone posted that they had all the development statements from 0 to 60+ months typed out and they printed them out lamenated them and had them on a key ring to help when they were doing observations. I thought I had downloaded it but now I can't find it. I was hoping that either someone else knows where it is or the person that did it will point me in the correct direction as I wanted to use it. Thanks
