So I have bought my little hammers, saw, nails and sandpaper. I have goggles, wood offcuts and some ideas for risk asessments but I can't seem to source a workbench with a vice. Does anyone have experience of woodwork with under 5s? Any tips? If you do woodwork in your setting, what do you use as a workbench? - how do you ensure the wood is held securely so it can be sawed or nailed safely? Obviously I only want to consider undertaking this activity having made sure I have covered every safety angle. Thanks David

Where To Buy A Display Board?
by Guest- 6 replies

I'm hoping someone out there will know where to find a large display board. We are in a parish room which is sectional temporary structure type affair - absolutely huge! We had a move about at the end of term and took down a board which can't go back up as it's crumpling away. Now i don't know where to get a replacement, does anyone know? It's for our Register mat so needs to be big enough for the usual maybe the size of a table? the problem is how to attach it as the hall is sectional i can only fix to the struts which run every 4 foot or so... looking forward (hopefully) to your ideas!!! Ever hopeful actually!

Plastic Jungle

There has been an increase in Autistic Spectrum diagnosis and the oil economy and its by products may be partially responsible. I came across a study that I feel is important to attend to. Already I will not use a plastic kettle nor microwave food in plastic containers and I am aware that baby feeding bottles have been scrutinised recently for male fertility effects. Here is the url not to alarm but to enable informed choice. http://www.treehugger.com/files/2009/04/vi...?dcitc=daily_nl This site US based advises manufacturers not using PVC The Back to School Guide to PVC Free School Supplies http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/o/852/t...Up.jsp?key=3567

Music Time

Hi does anyone have any ideas for music time and using musical instruments. We usually use cds such as sticky kids which have head, shoulders, knees and toes on and the usual ones. The children just walk away and we are left doing the actions on our own. Would like to incorporate the instruments more and have movement as well. Any ideas would be welcome. The children I work with are 2-5. Thanks Tracey xx

Hope I am doing this right - first time I've done a 'new topic'. I am setting up the role play area as a French Cafe - just hoping for the odd Bonjour, Merci etc and I was sure ELC did something containing Croissants or Baguettes. Can't find them anywhere. Can anyone help me find plastic croissants? Thanks

I've got some great ideas from the thread about graphics outside and I'm hoping you can inspire me with some ideas to get more maths outside. I find it hard to come up with new ideas, especially challenges for the children. Thanks in advance!

Zero Tolerance On Violence/agression

Hi i am a new visitor to the forum but have hit a stumbling block! the title comes across a bit heavy, but over time we have come accross a few parents who voice there views in a agressive manner and although these have been dealt with fine at the time, staff have recently been chatting about this not really being ok for them to be spoken to in this manner. currently we have no posters or policy stating anything to do with this topic so i was wandering if anyone else had anything i could look at to use. thankyou
