Hello all, how much do you use pictorial cues in you reception setting. I have a visual tiemtable ine with the basics e.g. assembly, a picture with letters for phonics, numbers for counting, then if we are covering, say weighing, i would put up a picture of weighing scales. Any way i also use picture cues for their 'Jobs' we have a little system where there is free flow play, focused tasks etc but also i have a table for an independent task that i invite children to use. When they have completed they put put their name by their photo (that way if they pick up the wrong name symbol then i can change it forthem, rather than thinking someone has done the 'job' who hasn't) No…

Hello, I am an early years practitioner but also train paediatric first aid courses. I am getting ideas for a seminar I am deliver at university. I am researching if and how people think the course could be made more relevant to their needs; whilst covering the Foundation Stage Guidelines. I would appreciate comments. Suggestions may be about teaching methods, or the subjects covered, or anything else that comes to mind. I did note a comment posted on the forum about the person having to sit through a repetitive course. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Hi all I've been observing the nursery to see who is using each of the areas, I've noticed that we have very few girls using the water area inside. It's a lovely water tray with plenty of resources, boats, jugs, funnels, animals, spoons etc. The boys have a big transporting schema, where everything they can usually ends up in the water. Have you any suggestions to get the girls into the water (so to speak!!) thansk

We are working on a dinosaur topic and I wondered if any of you had any good ideas for small fill-in time activities. I have got ideas for the main thing each week but can't think of things to keep them occupied between times. All i can think of is 'What's the time Mr Dinosaur'!!!!!!!! Any ideas would be fab. Sal

Just wondered if all you creative people out there could help me with some activity ideas. I have a child (3 1/2yrs) with SEN who has just begun to show an interest in naming the countries of the world. I showed her our globe and she pointed to and named the countries she has learnt at home. I think her interest is in naming and labelling as I have observed this in other areas (eg. naming all the children in the setting and their parents names). Can anybody think of any stories, rhymes or songs with the names of countries in to reinforce and extend her knowledge. She is just begining to develop her imaginary play, it needs careful role modelling and support to get her inv…
