Before I write one myself, has anyone produced a handout for parents about mark-making? I want to cover things like what sorts of activities help to develop fine motor control, how to encourage an interest in writing, etc. etc. Has anyone done something similar?

follow this link to the Book Ahead site : www.bookahead.org.uk From the brochure someone has just given me it appears that our Local Authorities will be distributing the Book Ahead lists to all settings shortly. Other interesting bits are: 'Underpinning this is an allocation of £4.5 million of funding from the DCSF to provide books for 0-7 age group t oall local authorities in England in 2008 and to support the delivery of the programme. Each authority via the Schools Library Service, will initially have 200 copies of the booklist to distribute around Early Years settings.... They will be able to select free books from this list to be used in a variety of ways -…

Roughly about a year ago I thought I read some information on this website about what to include in an letter of application for a teaching job and advice on how to set out the letter. I remember sending it to a friend but unfortunely she hasnt got it anymore and i cant find it. Had a look on TES for tips but it is very general. Does anyone have anything they could share. Thanks

When working at a previous setting we had an artist come in who made papier mache using sugar paper, PVA glue and water. The pulp could be moulded into different shapes and the children can press items into it similar to playdough or clay. I can't remember if there was anything else in the recipe and what the quantities were (if any). Has anyone ever done this who can give me some tips? Thanks

I had a meeting with the librarian at our local library today to work on ways of establishing stronger links with the Centre and she's just received a very exciting flyer from the local library service, all about the Book Ahead Scheme. It's a DCSF intiative aimed at establishing closer links between libraries and private/volutary early tears providers - nurseries, playgroups, childminders, toddler groups, etc. Here's the website: http://www.bookahead.org.uk/ In our area, the library is being sent 200 new books to loan out to settings in the area identified by the local library service. The library is also being asked to provide storytelling sessions, in the …

Obviously I CAN think, and I think I've got the essence of it, Comms, Lang &Lit Turn taking Creative development-imaginative Enjoyment of Stories, sharing special time with a parent/carer But i want to put together a leaflet for parents to excite them, pre-organising a parents workshop to make some more Story Sacks - I've made 2 and a singing Sack whilst an EYPS 'student' and want to highlight the benefits and learning outcomes. Many thanks Lucie

Does anyone else use the online services linked to magazine subscriptions? I used to find the website really easy to use but since its been upgraded there are a lot of things I can't find. There are some great interactive resources though and last week I trawled through and saved lots of things to 'my folder' Logged on today and its all disappeared...aggghh! Really annoying after spending so long searching everything out. I guess I've done something wrong in saving it... Does anyone else use the service and have a solution?! Han

Hi, wondered if anyone could help. I want to put some challenge cards in my construction area ( wooden blocks of all shapes and sizes) so that the children are more focussed in that area during freeflow. However, other than castles etc my mind has gone blank. Any ideas or examples anyone? :
