I'm running a few workshops next term for parents, all about making the most of the learning opportunities with your child that come about whilst going about everyday activities and chores. I spend the first hour with just the parents, chatting about the particular theme of the session, and then the children come through for the second hour and we do some activities and games based around that theme together. I'm just about sorted but wondered if anyone out there has got any good ideas for activities/games that the parents and children could do together during the second pat of the session based on firstly "A Shopping Trip" and secondly "Using Environmental Print". Merci beaucoup tout le monde !! (See, I do know a bit!!)

I'm sure many of you have already discovered and used this AMAZING place but I only visited it for the first time today - Early Excellence at Outlane, on the outskirts of Huddersfield. The centre is used for all sorts of training courses but also has lovely early years classrooms set out with ideas for areas for continuous provision, both Birth to Three and Foundation Stage.......and it also has an absolutely brilliant shop full of resources to die for!!!! I could have spent a fortune! My course is over two days, with the second day in April - I've decided to go back into the shop then WITH A STRICT BUDGET! If you live anywhere near and you haven't paid a visit to …

Talking Of Games

Talking of games. We are doing dark and light at the moment and our children are fascinated with space exploration and aliens e.t.c. We are also having a push on the concept of subtraction. Many years ago I remember a game where there were 2 dragon oulines on a sheet of A4, " children placed a number of counters on each dragon-(chickenpox) they then threw a die and took away the number of conters shown -whose dragon would be better first?-we called it spotty dragons. - well yesterdayI had a sudden brainwave to draw 2 jelly like aliens ( easy for me with my poor drawing skills) laminated them and showed the children how to play spotty aliens!! They loved it. One boy as…
