Hi - Thanks to Peggy for the idea - this forum is just to make the topics and activities discussions for Christmas easier to locate, bringing them all together. And, thinking ahead, to make them easier to locate next autumn as well! And no I'm not going to complain about finding Christmas decorations and Christmas puddings already in Tesco. This wouldn't be the right place...

So it would be great to see some of the wonderful things you do in your setting so others will be inspired! To start you off saw this link to simple cooking activities some of which require no cooking at all like marshmallow snowmen!

well after almost two weeks the elf has left the building! the children absolutely loved him - he would set them daily challenges like learn a song for christmas, listen to a christmas story etc., we took and printed photos of him using different parts of the setting - drawing, in the sand tray, using the bricks etc and left a note next to him saying "whilst you were away" - the children would search for him each day and found it so funny that he was using the toys whilst they were away. he was leaving last night on his "stickle brick" rocket he had made - fuelled by magic of course. he will definitely be coming back next year.

I know we are all starting to think about activities, gifts, cards, nativity's and parties, so thought it might be good to have a thread to post on. We are not holding our usual Xmas craft fayre this year as we haven't got enough helpers. We have decided to hold a nativity and pasty lunch!! We will put on our usual Christmas play/singing extravaganza (blink and you miss it) and then have a pasty lunch with a cake stall, wreath decorating and lucky dip. This is going to be held on the Saturday before Christmas. Our play is just the children dressed as characters fro…

A couple of years ago some kind person posted a game where they had a letter from Father Christmas requesting carrots for his very fussy reindeers, Rudolf likes one more than 5, Dasher doesn't like carrots etc., we have done this activity for a couple of years but I can't find the activity anywhere in my archive of Christmas planning. Anyone out there got a copy of the letter??

Christmas - measuring

Hi, I am an NQT and I have an observation coming up. I am going to do a whole class maths input followed by a focus activity. That week the children will be introduced to measures and ordering two/three objects by length/height. I want the children to have some objects to measure/order so that it is kept as practical as possible. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas of how I could link this to Christmas. Our topic this half term is celebrations but obviously in the next few weeks we are focusing on Christmas and I would like to link the lesson to Christmas if possible. I am just stuck for ideas! I did think looking at different length scarfs could be good? …
