The Alternative Christmas Tree

Hi guys, I thought I would share this with you. Instead of a typical tree this year we are bringing in a branch (that looks a bit like a small tree) and getting the children to bring in things to hang off it, anything- fir cones, photo's, bottle tops, conckers..... We are going to put out a range of things for them to decide how to attach their things to the tree -cellotape, thread, string, glue, paperclips etc.. and then when it's all finished with we are going to sort the materials (natural, metal, plastic etc). I'm hoping the children will bring some really interesting things in. Sal

I've just seen this on the TES site, if you've got access at your setting it could be a fun site to visit during December, or at home with your own children. Father Christmas webcam

When, if at all, do you all have your christmas party for the children in your setting. We are a pre-school in a church hall and are planning our party for the last day of term. We intend to invite all 42 children on roll. I have been in contact with our insurance company (morten michel) to find out if we are covered and they say we will be as long as it is in one of our regular sessions and provided that ofsted will amend our registration document to increase the number from 26 to 42 for that one session. Have just written to OFSTED to request this and now await a reply. Does everyone else do this. Having just had a good Ofsted report, I don't wa…

Does anyone know a simple version of the snow queen that is suitable for foundation stage children... or any planning surrounding this story? We are covering it as a school and it is fine for older children, but I need a really simple version.

Our pre-school christmas party this year is again fancy dress. All staff will be attending. We have all chosen our costume except one. We have so far got: elf, fairy, angel, snowman, reindeer, christmas tree. We need one more idea, bearing in mind that the person needs to be able to move around and join in with the activities, i.e. ring games, running around etc. We don't want the obvious of santa as he will be paying us a visit during the party. Any ideas welcome.

Hello everyone. I help run a small village Nursery. we have 16 children who's ages range from 2 to 4 years old. The Nursery would like to be more involved within the village so I have been talking to the local over 60's club and they would love the children to sing Christmas carols/songs to them. Due to the young age group I have and I know as soon as the children have an audience they will clam up and not sing, I have suggested that we invite parents along too and everyone in the audience has a song sheet so they can join in. So, now I need your help. Could you please suggest Christmas songs that I know the children will learn quickly and hopefully songs th…
